turned out to be reviewing games and a review of other game beta's
below there is a list of awesome games and there will be some vids of side scroller action from some of these

i think beta should be intermittent and concentrate less on the aspect of getting to play it as early access, every week we do a beta crash. over load a server and finger every nook and cranny for bugs. i personally believe the developers are gonna master this game and the ones who are gonna love it will play it and pass it down to their kids even one day. this game is like a planet, a country a community and should be given every chance to be utilized for this final goal even if the roles at first are small and even just plain rediculous. id download the client just to be loaded into a room with nothing in it just for the sake of testing machines one week. almost like mini games to stress test the project.

i think before people are aloud to go full adventure survival mode they do some experiments that allow for access to things of all tiers but not to be kept by players. then move along to the " watch how people play " and fix the inconsistencies. also allowing them to keep their things up to a capped tier of items and such and kept for release

i don't like the idea of beta just being early access. plan to use beta to their advantage by actually putting the hit out on this game "first week we break this bastard and put it away wet "

on a side note here is some of the most bad ass things i like about the genre and some things unrelated these are not suggestions but a review of evolutions and even genius " if its not plagiarism its evolution " but is there much room left for evolution here are a few personal examples of older games that i think absolutely nailed it some are obvious and others are not. but the idea here is mostly nostalgia

castlevania symphony of the night loved the weapons in this game. almost everyone single one had a double tap secondary attack that was slightly different. some of them were like a teleporting dash that would return you back to where you cast it almost like an illusionary attack. also i loved the way the chain when not shooting out strait would drop to he ground and be swingable and youd just rip this thing around almost pointlessly.

tomba! just watch a vid this game was stellar. loving that branch swing jump. loved the weird quest system too for that one

megaman.. need i say more. his 8 bit counterpart even blinks. but the music in that game was revolutionary for driving the playing into pushing forward. at any moment in the air you could change trajectories. i strongly believe megamna x had mastered the side scrolling controls, its just undeniable that feeling of perfect control.

river city ransom - i dont think 2 button combat was ever more awesome, who knew you could do so many moves with 2 buttons it coulda easily have been the smash bro's of its day with all that shit you could do.

e.v.o for snes man this game was awesome beyond words

actraiser / soul blazer / dark cloud love the idea of rebuilding a destroyed town with guide lines. and even subtle rewards for putting certain shops close to each other as they synergize some what logicly. almost like in dungeon keeper when size of rooms determined how efficient the room could be or how much it could produce or if built correctly atracted next level monsters and such also some monsters liked having their rooms close to each other and some you wanted to keep seperate.

star control 2- i just have to put this here. i feel like this game is a driving force to starbounds existance

sega cd - flink made by 3 guys 1 programer 1 artist and one musician 9 months to make and the game plays fanstastic and the sprite work and backgrounds look great.

sega cd - popful mail. by working designs this video says it best i think

shit interupted i had to leave and will be back to compile more nostalgia. hopefully i can find this post again

I don't have a problem with saving characters. If they want to do it, let them.

I don't think anything will ever top Megaman X in terms of 2D gameplay. Literally everything in that game was perfect.
Also, if you haven't already, I think you'd enjoy Egoraptor's "Megaman X Sequelitis".
On topic, I would prefer that they didn't wipe character data after the full game's release. I understand that people who play Beta will get the game earlier, but I don't want to wake up one day to find all my characters gone and deleted.

    You got that right.

But I don't really mind being able to port my character over. After all, the beta will only contain the first three tiers or so. It's not as if that's a ridiculous advantage, since we won't have access to everything regardless of how early we get in. If they had all 10 tiers, then we'd have a problem. Besides, if I put the hours into a character, I'd hate for that to go to waste when the full release comes about.

some of the content of this post may just be a sort of repeat of some things i said in my first post

made the mistake of adding my opinion on beta. in here when i really just wanna talk about games that help support side scrolling brain storming and more about raising the effectiveness of the average beta. we have great develeopers who have fans with high standards lets put these high standard people to the test

id love to see developer and player testing at basically every tier and all items everything you can imagine to try out and that's where some disposable characters could come into play and play a bigger part in the test if we all shoot every gun in every direction we might find something out sooner then the beta that watches and balances the early. mid game and end game play feel/ difficulty and equal content etc

id like to talk about beta in a different way in here. if anything it would be more of a review of how the beta as a concept has been handle by other companies and its players in the past. questions like when you played in a beta did you feel like there was a significant role that they had left you with, that any data was even collect on your part? its too often i feel like what i do in beta could have been more? often leaving ideas lost in the wind. beta is definitely the chance to strike first and fast at some underlying issues and add suitable content or fix and to ad a more complete experience like a cozy room in your house. every spot is filled with all sorts of things that all have their place and look natural

.i want that first product to be amazing when its released i don't want to feel like i missed out on the game because i bought it first so lets crush this thing and make it the best with this beta.

and maybe the beta needs to step up and play a larger role then it has in the past as a gaming community working together on this concept, trust each other to get some " real " work done for free essentially.

Man, Tomba 2 is one of my FAVORITE games ever. That pseudo-3D platforming was simply god-tier stuff, man.

Only real contribution I've had towards a beta was previewing Megabyte Punch (was a buy-in beta) for a gaming news site. Developers found it and tweeted the article. I've played plenty of betas, but never felt as if I'd really contributed something before.

I'd say allow players the option to keep their stuff after-beta. Especially in a game like this, starting over after dumping 60+ hours into a game like this can sometimes be frustrating to the point that people won't want to play it. Personally I'm good eithier way, my friends and I have suffered through enough wipes of Minecraft servers, and Terraria servers we don't mind anymore.

I enjoyed Actraiser, as well as the Dark Cloud series, I wasn't as big of a fan of Soul Blazer, because I felt you didn't really have the option of "building" the town, it just sort of happened as you played, still an amazing game mind you. You seem to enjoy old games, look up one called Faxanadu, you might enjoy it, a pre-warning though, it can be a very difficult game, especially if you don't use a FAQ/Walkthrough.

I've played alot of Betas in the past, some I was disappointed with the finished product (Megaten) because it just felt wrong (In it's case, it was way to grindy, but hey to each their own.) So I'm looking forward to being part of a Beta with an active community, that has so much to talk on, building, exploring, crafting etc. I also look forward to seeing how Chucklefish handles the challenge of fixing the beta etc, I hope they live up to the expectations put upon them, or at least don't stress to much over not doing so.

The point of a beta is to allow for normal play, and searching for bugs in both normal play and "extreme" play, where a player will go about intentionally trying to find ways to exploit the game. Most people will be doing tons of the former and none of the latter.

i have a copy of faxanadu sitting right behind me i probably beat it again about a year ago. loved it. ive pretty much had every console made and ive hacked or cracked or disc loaded or hard drived or firmwared is that all of them ?

outside of the ones that you didnt have the option to play copied games i later played on emulators.

i have downloaded and emulated every game i could download for snes, nes , all sega, every old game boy and gameboy color game and many more

ive had over 6 chipped playstation 1's with just hundreds and hundreds of burned games the ps2 i had the disc loader and hard drive. xbox i had modded xbox 360 i had fireware hacked, the gba , ds, dsi and 3ds i have used 3 different cartridge rom loaders.
i had a dream cast with the disc booter done up
****shit i even got to experience the game doctor for super nintendo which i dont think 99% of people know what it is.
( this crazy machine almost as big as the snes itself plugs into the game slot and you had Blank.. yes blank snes cartridges and youd pop an original game into this thing and it would copy it to this blank cartridge for you and then youd just return your rental, and all the cartridges were erasable and reusable. )

the number of games ive sat down and played is uncountable and i made sure i felt like i had raped the games i played of all their greatest forumlas for fun. and i thinks its true the old games had it easy and that ment higher quality stuff.

not gonna lie the game boy is freaking amazing in every stage its ever birthed, by far some of the most variety of stuff ive ever seen on these consoles. when it came to what counted to the hard core players on these systems they were unique almost every time, you jump into a genre you like over and over again and every time they surprise you with a new battle method or new twists on what you love and no one wanted to copy each other it's phenomenal,

more games that i mostly loved and mostly ps1 ( had to look at a list to remember what ive played )
    ogre battle- aweosme
    tactics ogre - awesome
final fantasy tactics - loved it
vandal hearts- was cool not sure i liked the counter attack system - so shoot sword guy or he stabs you back
hoshigami - i really didnt like this one because even the story levels got harder if you grinded.
Alundra -mind blowing dark game that was basically zelda for the fearless
Alundra 2 -in these games you have a nice happy town then its pretty much a graveyard when your done playing
Azure Dream - mix genre game to the max, climb tower use escape or lose items, date sim, town builder and pet
beyond the beyond - original rpg for ps1 had a timing thing for battles to do some extra damage right before you hit
breath of fire 3 and 4 - awesome games little bit of everything and good story for the most part
    sotn
chocobo dungeon was a bit weird same movement style as azure dreams you move one block they move one
dark stone was a diablo clone i wasnt a fan
Grandia - played it dont remember much
    Granstream Saga
    Guardian's Crusade
    Jade Cocoon
    Kartia: Word of Fate
    Legend of Dragoon
    Legend of Legaia
    Legend of Mana
    Legacy of Kain, Blood Omen
    the lunar series
    Monster Seed
both parasite eves- man i loved the first game was not impressed with second game so much
Persona - such a weird game when you've got all these ideas of how to play these games already
    Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure
    saga frontier's
Star Ocean: Second Story this game has got to be one of my favorites of all times,
    Suikoden series
tales of destiny1+2 awesome side scrolling battles and great story and game play just awesome...

thousand arms, another trippy rpg with dating aspects and lots of crafting
threads of fate was decent enough
vagrant story was a hack and slash rpg based in an underground labyrinth you were trying to exit or something
valkerie profile the story progression in this game might be the most insane thing to ever exist Massively replay to get that story out of it though and hard as shit but worth every penny to anyone hardcore.

wild arms was another earlier ps1 rpg it was kinda of about room puzzles and was pretty classic style
xenogears was a mech rpg it was okay i guess nothing special.
    odin sphere * side scroller

that was pretty much just ps1 rpgs i liked this time which was almost all of them for the system.

did anyone play the mc donalds game ever?

probably throw some more vids in here later. going to sleep unfinished
