My hype is dying

Nice. Was really speaking in general. Applies to everyone.

 

They're working as hard as they can to get the game finished to a point where they think it's ready for the public.

We just have to try to be patient. Easier said than done, though.

 

This is not EA, they don't pump out a game ever 5 months, (damn it assassin's creed) Mario 3/darksouls wasn't built in a day.

 

The only thing that stops me from giving up on this game altogether is the fact that I have just short of $100 into it. If I had not pre-ordered, this game would be ground into the dust of the past in terms of games I give a shit about anymore, hahaha. In all seriousness though, it is pretty greasy how they are running the show. They know that since they practically have our money hostage, they have us by the balls and can pull whatever they want and we just have to smile and bare it, because there is nothing we can do. They have our money, they can now jerk us around as much as they want and get away with it, and they certainly have. Not impressed.

 

How have the devs jerked you around? What commitment to you have they broken?

 

Dev team dialogue is in CAPITALS. User dialogue is in lower case:

"YEAH BOYS PREORDER! ITS GONNA BE GREAT! YEAH THANKS FOR THE MONEY, YOU GUYS ROCK!"

Heheh yeah thanks. So, could we have a demo, or uh you know a trailer or something?

"SORRY BROS, IT WILL ALL BE READY WHEN ITS DONE"

Or maybe even just a release date for a demo, beta or trailer?

"SURE YOU WANT A DATE!? WE WILL GIVE YOU A DATE! 2013! YEAH 2013!"

Oh, okay well we were thinking more a specific date, like even just a month or something?

"NAH NAH NAH YOU WANTED A DATE? WE GAVE YOU A DATE. IT WILL ALL BE RELEASED IN 2013!"

You said that about 2012, then you grossly overshot it in every way imaginable.

"HEY, STOP BEING MEAN, WE ARE ONLY SO MANY PEOPLE, BUT NOW THAT WE HAVE MONEY WE CAN DO IT HARDCORE!"

Okay great, so can we have a trailer or demo, or could you just at least update the roadmap/character creator?

Jeez guys, we have given you 1.2 million dollars, don't you think you could at least give us a little some--

"NAH NAH NAH OKAY LISTEN BUD, TRAILER: 2013, BETA: 2013, GAME: 2013. THERE IS A GUARANTEED DATE FOR EVERYTHING, HAPPY?"





They have been doing the above for nearly two months now. Before that, even.

 

They plainly said that they didn't know when beta would be available and the pre-order info doesn't give a date, it simply says that you will have access when it is available. If you think a release date or beta date should be given when you pre-order a game, then you shouldn't have pre-ordered starbound.

 

You seem to be under the impression that by pre-ordering the game you're supposed to be getting anything more than the game itself. Afraid that's not how it is, chum. If they specifically say 'hey, you get this by pre-ordering!' then yeah, you should get that, too. But they made pre-ordering a thing specifically so they could have the money to work on the game full time, rather than in short periods while they do their other job(s).

Yes, you are indeed entitled if you pre-order the game. However, the only thing you are entitled to is the game itself, a beta key, the soundtracks and whatever else may have come with whatever tier you purchased. That's what you paid for, that's what you get. You put $100 into it? I don't see the people who put $2000 into the game complaining they don't get more than a statue in their honor.

 

Thats exactly what their doing. (i am not knocking the creators) i just dont think their doing a great job handling the situation on what us (their customers) want. Like i said i want some estimated time. For all i know this game can come out in 2030. Give us some date please and dont say 2013

 

the wait does suck but reading in the forums and looking at the streams helps with getting some info and watching ZXCV4523's videos helps also he shows a lot of stuff im unable to catch like streams they happen when im in bed lol

Yeah, we need a trailer and a release date. I just want to know how long I have to wait, so I can get excited at the right time.

 

From a business standpoint, and with 1.2 million dollars on the line, them saying "2013" is the equivalent of saying "at some point before chucklefish is dissolved as a business".

 

While this is true, some people have yet to consider the size of the developing team. It's small, VERY small. If they have a set release date that only the developers know about, they actually CANNOT take time to respond to threads like these, or anything like this in general. Their focus, has to be on the game.

 

I've been waiting since day 1. No hype loss here. I guess it depends on the person, but I'm usually a very impatient person, so I'm really surprised these topics keep popping up.

 

For everyone asking for a date...
Have you ever written one line of code?
Ever made a whole sprite sheet?
Ever troubleshot problems manually?
If you answered no to any of these questions, you have NO idea how this process works. There is no feasible way to know exactly what date they will be done. It depends if they have trouble getting a sprite to look good. Depends on whether or not they mess up their code. Depends on whether or not their code has bugs. Depends on whether or not they figure out how to solve those bugs if they have them. Depends on if any of them have personal conflicts. There's what, 9 of them working on the game? Ever seen EA's credits, or the credits to ANY major game? Takes like 20 minutes to go through all of the people who made the game. Yea, 9 people have to do all of that in this instance. 9 people gotta figure out everything that is wrong with the game and fix it. It's not so simple as they have every day planned out and will for sure meet quota every single day and they go "Oh look, this is the day we will be 100% done." Sure they know what they are going to do and they work on it every day, but there are too many variables for so small a team for a concrete date to ever be present until the day they finish. I challenge anyone to calculate what they've done so far and how close they are to finishing to find out their average rate per day and calculate what day they will finish. I'll bet you anything that date you calculate will be wrong.
