Reading this comment makes me laugh a little.. you obviously have no idea of how business like this is handled.
It's perfectly alright to make a comment that you "wish the game was out" that you have been ""waiting so long".. but yours is just 9 steps too far.
I suggest you email the devs and request a refund for your pre-order.. you are obviously not happy anymore with your purchase and im sure they would be more than happy to get your whining and 'treasonous' (as someone before me put it) ass out of their forums.

 

Tough I do agree with your post overall there are some things in it that leave me wondering.

Firstly "There is no feasible way to know exactly what date they will be done" The majority of people aren't asking for an exact date, just something more well-defined then the current-year-window, Since you are seemingly speaking from a position of experience (anything else would make you a hypocrite) do you really think that it would be totally unrealistic to narrow it down to a 3-4 month window somewhere down the line? Because even if the pace of development with such a small team is, as you say, unpredictable one would thing that they will be able to determine when they are starting to wrap things up.

Secondly "Ever seen EA's credits, or the credits to ANY major game? Takes like 20 minutes to go through all of the people who made the game. Yea, 9 people have to do all of that in this instance." This statement I find nothing short of laughable. Starbound is nowhere near the size of anything that can be considered a "major game" by current industry standards and the man-hours and money required to produce Starbound pales in comparison to anything "major". If the Chucklefish team where to make, let's say Modern Warfare 3, we would be lucky to see this delivered by their 9-man-team within a decade.

Yes, I do believe it would be unrealistic. 2013 is somewhat close to a 3-4 month period since there's only 7 more months in 2013... And again I relate to the analogy of writing a book. The day someone can accurately predict when their book will be finished when they're only maybe 65-75% done is the day that I'll admit that people should accurately give a time of completion.
And the analogy to major games, if you look at the content that is in this game it's easily more than a lot of major games. The crappy Walking Dead survival instinct easily had like a fourth of the content this game has at best, and the credits for that game are quite long and is considered a major game. Of course I know it doesn't have as much as say, SimCity does, but put it in perspective; this game is offering a heck of a lot of content near to or on par with many major games.

 

I think we all need to simmer down....simmer down now and look....kitten!! See! Kitten! Relax! Kitten!..........relaaaaax........go hug something.
