My first 10 hours into the game and I feel stuck, bored.

The first planet I landed on was massive. It was the biggest planet type that could be generated. It was too big to explore the surface so I just started mining. It took me 6 hours of mining straight down and I still haven't hit Lava. I upgraded my pickaxe's to gold, and I crafted the scavenger's? armor which was the highest level armor I could craft with my station. I was using an abandoned research center on the surface as my base of operation's.

I crafted the distress beacon and defeated the UFO, after it destroyed much of my research center roof with its bomb's. Oh well it served its purpose. Killed it with an Iron Bow.

Then I went to a Beta section planet. The monster's were one shotting me. I couldn't survive on the surface so I started mining again. I got to lava very quickly because it is a small planet then I started mining horizontally. Just collected enough coal to re-fuel my ship.

My friend joined me and we collected the stuff to make the robot to summon the robot boss. I got the processor and created the robotic crafting table. My friend was in Gamma sector already so he gave me a bunch of weapons and armor he had found which was better then what I was able to craft.

Then I went to the Gamma sector.

Again, monsters were one hit killing me so exploring the surface was a pain. Kept losing pixels. I do better with ranged weapons but it seems like there are only melee weapons which kind of sucks.

Then I figured I would mine again maybe there would be cool new resources. Drilled down to lava again and found Titanium.

Now I feel like I have to mine for another 20 hours to get enough titanium to craft the next tier of items. PICKAXES are getting annoying because they are slow when you hit hard surfaces. If it wasn't for random monster's or water hazards I would just set a macro and go AFK.

Anyways the few dungeons I found were pretty small and I have not received any tech or interesting weapons.

The combat is very derpy in that monsters just jump and attack. Except for the birds which are too hard to hit with melee weapons. Most melee weapons only swing forward so it makes it painful to fight if you cant aim above or below you. Guns are rare. And using a weapon with an overhead swing and a ranged special ability is the only way to make the combat bearable. Certain weapons have special abilities but the description does not tell you anything about it.

I find neutral monsters but they don't do anything but sit there. I want to breed them and harvest them for food on a monster farm. Or make friends with them. Or give them food at least.

I find neutral NPC's but they don't do anything either. They just stand there. If you click them they say a few words. They don't mine, farm, or fight.

One guy I found in a house, a few other hostile NPC's came by and killed him. He didn't even fight back.

    I find abandoned buildings.

    I feel very lonely.

Dungeons have been scarce on the three planets I have been to so far.

I wish I could just build a drilling rig and automate it to smelt all the items and place them in storage containers. Maybe visit an NPC city and watch people go around doing things. Or join a war between two alien race's or something.

    The world is dead though.

Only interesting things I have found are buried in random locations and are just buildings with loot. Mostly worthless loot.

    Anyways I am bored.

    :(

1st, shields are OP. Get one and a good 1-handed sword.
    2nd, Pulse Jump.
    3rd, Kill those darn birds.

Also you want to make the portable pixel printer with the robot crafting table, it lets you upgrade your bandages so they heal you faster and for more HP for just 50 pixels each. That should help your survivability.

Also, required mention that the game is still Beta with only 4 of it's 10 tiers implemented. Find some mods that you find interesting and play with them if you are so horrifically bored of the currently implemented official content.

I completely understand how you feel. On an aside, I found a drilling mod, and it looks pretty nice. But yeah, the game lacks a lot of variance and life. It's expansive, but uninteresting and surprisingly limiting.

Sorry to hear that, though I should let you know that better tools for mining exist. I'm surprised you've only visited 3 planets so far. If you haven't found a town yet, I suggest searching for one; it'll liven things up just a little bit. If you've made it to gamma sector, I can note for comparison that you've gotten to about 30% of the game, in terms of planet difficulties. Progressing through the game will unlock more varied places to explore and loot like awesome techs and powerful weapons.

Also, as is customary at this point, it should be noted that this game is in its early beta stages and a lot of the content in terms of quests and environment are still in the works.

Spawning your own NPCs might also help with loneliness. xD

That's a very good way to put it. You feel like the universe is barren and centered around you. None of the neutral NPCs do their own thing, just standing there. Some citizen NPCs occasionally pull out a stone hoe and till a single tile. Why can't they be crafting items, making homes, tending to farms, selling to other NPCs, etc.? Same with the enemies. When they're not aggro'd, they just stand there. They don't hunt other enemies, none of them ever sleep, they don't breed, they don't even have homes.

I hope NPC behavior is expanded upon. I want to start war with the tassty Apex and feel the glory of fighting two sides when the Humans join in to help the Apex. I want to see a Glitch cavalry sparring against a group of Glitch footmen, as a test. I want to see Apex actually experimenting on civilians.

A live world would be fun. It'd make the exploration aspect, and the possibilities, awesome.

I want to come across a huge underground spider nest that contains many herds of the acidic chainsaw-fanged spider-alligators I've been seeing all over the planet, the same spider-gators that both villages on this planet have been complaining about. Lemme go in guns-ablazin' and kill them all. I wanna fight the giant Spidergator Queen in there, putting an end to the spider-gator infestation that's left the civilians of this planet starving and sick.

Maybe this game contains a message about how alone we truly are, even though the universe is so sprawling. Even though there's things to do, none of it holds any true meaning and you can never truly connect with anyone else. ;D

But joking(?) aside, I definitely resonated with your post, and a lot of people do. It's a gorgeous universe, but it seems empty, and even more pressing, the grind. So... much... grind...

Of course they plan on adding a much more driving story, much more content, etc etc. However, once I started feeling how you described, I imagined the game at this point less as a game, and more like Minecraft in it's early days. There is no point, and so I guess expect nothing. I guess just breathe in the worlds, and pretend it's a garden of Eden, just admiring the world for what it is, before the days of drama and intrigue. At least until the game continues to be improved, I just plan on basking in it mindlessly and without aim, and maybe that's how you should too.

I'm really curious, where did you hear about this game and why did you buy it? It's made crystal clear multiple places, all other the forum the loading of the game, and elsewhere that this is an early unfished beta, of a fairly large scale and fully flushed out game with a story that will be seen in the future. This it the basic statement posted here about the Beta.
The beta will come in 3 main stages. (Link http://playstarbound.com/how-the-beta-is-going-to-work/)

I see post after post similar to yours, and having an idea of what your perspective is would be helpful.
    Thanks

FYI - We are currently in Stage one of a 3 part beta stage process the beta isn't even a month old yet..

    Progenitor

Stage 1 will be move at a breakneck speed. This will be the buggiest and busiest stage of the beta. A bunch of unfinished features will be disabled whilst we finish them up. Updates will come thick and fast, sometimes as often as multiple updates a day.

If you choose to take part during stage 1 you should expect bugs, lots of balance changes, you shouldn’t get too attached to your character or universe as we may make changes that require you to start from scratch. You should expect the game to be broken at points as we make sweeping changes but you’ll get to enjoy exciting new content added constantly. The engine won’t optimized during this stage of the beta so performance could be poor on some low end machines.

You’ll get to see a bunch of ‘behind the scenes’ content at this stage and provide feedback during this crucial period.

DO take part in this stage if:

    - You enjoy testing buggy and unfinished code

    - You enjoy providing feedback

    - You want to leave your mark on the game

    - You just can’t wait any longer

DO NOT take part in this stage if:

    - Bugs infuriate you

    - You don’t like spoilers

    - You can’t stand losing your save

    - You want the full Starbound ‘experience’ the first time you play.

To add to the above post, the beta will likely last throughout most of 2014. It's going to be a long long road, just like many indie games. If you want the full experience, wait until Stage 3 as advertised. Note that content will still be added (monthly last I heard?) after release.

But to clarify again, this is Stage 1. This part of the beta is not designed around having fun, but rather for hardcore fans that want to test/experience the game as it goes through heavy development. Everything you see can and most likely WILL change.

For reference, Terraria 1.0 was pretty much void of content. It didn't really get good until a few patches after release. Now the game almost has too much content fit into a tiny single world. Starbound will get there, and it has an entire universe of possibilities.

I understand it is a beta.

I understand it is stage 1 of beta.

Maybe a developer reads my post and says "What do I need to do in order to make that player happy?". Maybe it sparks an idea. I dont know, and I don't have many specific suggestions to offer them.

If I do I will be sure to share them.

In the meantime I am just relaying my "experience".

I do not have any experience with Terraria or Minecraft. I am mostly a FPS gamer.

Thanks for the response, as I mentioned I've seen many posts like yours, and so it's just interesting to see. what your response would be. Personally, I love the early dev cycle of gaming, and been involved in different levels on many projects. I do it out of love for certain projects that I was to see get better, and be involved doing it. Although I do feel bad for the kid that bought this "game" spend all of Christmas break building his amazing wonder _________ and then having it deleted.

I do like this game... and there are always going to be people jumping in any thread like this with "omg it's beta". However, my impression after getting to impervium and now, pretty much, being done... is that it is really, really, really beta. Like, I'm kind of surprised they expected me to pay for it beta.

Regardless, I did pay for it, and hope it develops into a complete game. It certainly is a fun framework of a game... I enjoyed it for a few days and I will continue to give feedback, along with everyone else, as the updates hit.

If I'm not mistaken, a bunch of the issues you've brought up HAVE been addressed, thankfully. Combat maybe not so much but I'm not expecting much there, though I know enemies are going to get better AI's based on the body parts they have.

At this point, I'd say wait for Stage 2 Beta. Stage 1 so far is basically seeing what the game has to offer in terms of the worlds and exploration. Which after a while, gets boring. Stage 2 is what I'm looking forward to, which is where everything is MOSTLY feature-complete. And from the sound of it, that's where the real fun begins,

ähm are you sure u dont play a pirated version of the game? sorry but enemies 1-hitting you isnt normal with the current build, at least not in beta or gamma sector
are you upgrading your armor? you only mentioned scanvenger armor, what about: silver armor, scouts armor, gold armor, pioneers armor, platinum armor?

also those long times you mentioned for digging sounds like an old version to me. atm ores spawn in such ways that you can easily obtain all ores needed...
so if you use a pirated version at least make sure you use the last one.. angry koala
yeah you will not admit it if this is the case.. but 1-hitting enemies in angry koala..srsly? no....

sorry and birds are hard to hit? are you kidding. how about you move you ass a little? running a lil left or right, jumping towards the birds and slash.. i never miss and afte 3 hits tops they are dead...

hard surfaces: ähm lol again your fault... then dont dig hard surfaces.. you can find everything in dirt, sand, find sand, gravel. it isnt like terraria that higher tier mats only spawn deeper and surrounded by hard materials.
you can find everything everywhere. i dont play much atm because of all the wipes.. i only play each version a little and when i tested angry koala i already had 10 platinum bars before leaving alpha sector
and i never dig through something harder as cobblestone, most of the time i even avoid cobblestone. just visit a damn desert planet, dig through fine sand, sand, dirt and gravel and u r ready to go in no time...

Currently mobs with rapid-fire type abilities are broken in that they do not possess nerfed damage. No matter which sector you're in, if it's the most current sector you have access to you WILL die if you get hit by a head-on rapid fire attack. It's possible to get "1-hit" (technically, one attack) by enemies.
