Better than handing us the game without getting any input. Don't just think about what may have gotten worse due to feedback, think about what's gotten better.

  3. Darklight

    That list is awfully short

This is true but they have to draw a line, you will never make everyone happy and the game will end up a mess.

I think Chucklefish should copy some of the storyline mechanics from games like Star Control 2. Especially once they incorporate space combat in the game. It would give the game depth if there were dialogues with other races that could have a multiple outcomes. Dialogue would also help with the feeling of isolation that the game has. This feeling works great in games like System Shock2 and Metroid Prime, but I don't think it suits Starbound. I would love it if the game would also have things like branching storylines (sidequests), random events with NPC:s, reputation systems for different races etc. Basically things that would make the player feel that his actions and choices have an impact further along the game

I haven't played the game that much due to the character wipes, but so far the quests have been extremely linear and simple. I would like to see more complex objectives. For example the player might get a message that tells him to travel to a specific planet. On that planet the quest might involve combat, but it might also be something completely different. The player might have to solve a mystery by talking to people and gathering clues or he might have to build a specific structure. Anything cool the devs might think of.

It's just a possibility that this game just isn't for you, that's a thing people and it's not a bad thing, not every game can be for everyone.

Truthfully though, the real questions people should be asking before they post anything involving feedback or suggestions is that: Could it be asking for too much? We all need to remember that this is just a 2D side scroller and the Devs can only do so much with it. I can only see number two and three of your feedback actually being able to have something done about them, but I really can't see one and and some aspects of (as other aspects can simply be attached to the fact that this is a beta and not everything has been added in yet) four being able to be implemented without extensive gutting of what is already in the assets of the game.

In no way shape or form am I trying to shoot your points down, I'm just trying to bring things in to perspective, which is something a lot of people here just flat out don't do. Would I like for what you're asking for to be implemented? Yes, yes I would, but do I think it can actually be done to the point where all of your suggestions can be sated? No, I really don't think that can happen.

The game's good, but the issues addressed here are all almost correct. As it stands, the game isn't really very special atm.

I have to mention though that meteorite rains do occur on some planets, but on those planets they usually occur every 1-2 minutes (mass destruction), and they only spawn on your screen (rest of the world remains untouched, once again increasing that centered feeling you were talking about.

Really hope the devs see your post, +1.

If the devs have any brains they'll just ignore 90% of what the yahoos and flibbertigibbets (and I include myself in there, make no mistake) say around here and just go ahead and develop the game as they see fit. The majority of things people are suggesting are mucking around with core fundamentals that really aren't any of our business right now. Especially when you consider that practically anybody can mod the the living crap out this game any time they like. Want something? Shove it in there. Don't like it? Yank it out. Listening to what any average dummy with a keyboard and too much free time thinks about the the product this early would be a mistake. You'd end up with a game-by-committee and that's a recipe for disaster.

But how much work would be involved with trying to implement those suggestions, because at least two of them would involve gutting the current assets of the game to make them have more variety and be less static.

When you say 'gutting current assets', what exactly do you mean? I can think of land and planet generation needing to be heavily tweaked, of course.

He's asking for a less static environment which would involve taking the current assets of the game (like trees, flowers, and things like that) and adding more ways for them to form which would need more versions and different shapes/types of those assets to be added in which would all need to be made by hand. Then they would have to add in the code that allows for all those new assets to be used which would need further bug testing, and I know for a fact that a lot of those assets would have to be reworked/remade again to fix most of the bugs. This isn't as simple as adding one or two lines of code, it's far more involved than that.

i think the problem is that some people expect FAR too much from a 2d mining game.

this is not and wont EVER be Skyrim in space.

It would be nice if we could get something like that, but I know of no 2D engine that could handle that type of stress. I think the bigger issue though is that a lot of forumers seem to be posting feedback or suggestions that would involve gutting parts of the game and reworking it, which would include having to balance everything all over again. Then there are some where the Devs might as well just scrap what they have now as the the entire engine would need to be remade in order for that feedback to be implemented. Some suggestions would just take far too much work and/or time for them to ever be implemented.

First thing to make you a better forum member Short posts we dont want the story of your life. Second Trees do regrow There are special root blocks below them That makes them regrow unless you remove them. And for christ sake you did read the game discription befor you bought it so it should not come as a suprise that it is a sandbox game. Also ITS BETA NOT A FINISHED GAME. Sorry for the caps there But they are nowhere near finished with the game more and more things are added each update. So my advice is be patient and you will see

So.... until beta is finished, everyone should just keep their opinions to themselves? And why get nasty when someone writes a long post and make rude comments about "writing their life history?" This makes YOU a "better forum member?" Additional rude comments about the OP not reading the game description before buying are also pointless. If you actually read the post you'd know the OP was not "surprised" that this is a sandbox game.

The point of Beta is to play, find bugs, and provide feedback. The OP's feedback is about the game, whether you agree with the feedback or not. Replies such as these aren't on point with anything at all other than being rude to people who take the time to voice their opinion. Rather than try to shut down people who have opinions you don't agree with, perhaps you could try providing some useful articulate counterpoints on why you disagree.

At the time I wrote this, the person you're giving advice to on "being a better forum member" had 132 posts and 25 likes. You had 2 posts and 0 likes, and one of your two posts was general rudeness. I think before you start in on other forum members about how useful they are, perhaps you could try providing some value to the forums yourself.

I think the root of the problem with the enviroments feeling samish, no matter what planet you go to, is based in that they went too far with the randomizing. If they had different planets be generated with specific parameters and assets, I think they've could have made them feel more destinctive than what they currently does, same with monsters. Think larger scales of Terraria/Minecraft/"other similar" games, biomes.

oh but i do. I made this AC 15 min ago to start telling ppl how bloddy stupid they are. Whining on a unfinished game saying that the game is bad and sucks is like Bringing forth all the ingredients for a dish and then instantly saying that the dish tastes like shit. I dont say that you shouldnt give feedback im just sauing that for the duration of the beta you should do so neutraly.
