Well, if it's even remotely difficult I can (and probably will) make a video tutorial, step-by-step, on how to start and join a server. I've got enough experience recording/commentating to be able to make a high quality guide.

I'm sure some sort of complexion will absolutely HAVE to be involved in at least one step of the way. It's quite hard to automatically pop up in your friends server without actually inputting some sort of server code. Yet one thing I'd also like to know is that if Hamachi will be compatible with Starbound? I know not everyone is a fan of it but I'd just like to know. Back on the subject, you could view over this thread and see if anything answers your questions.

Of course, multiplayer is not plug and play, it cannot work that way and I'm also very interested in hamachi. If you guys have any issue with it, maybe one of us can help, I've been using it for a long time now with little to no trouble. Most problems are related to firewalls, wifi and AVs and they can be solved. I've heard my brother say that hamachi messes with your wifi configuration, I don't know myself, since I still use good old wire.

Hmm someone should write a tutorial on how to use hamachi on the forums, I would do it, but my English is far from perfect and I don't want to lead people towards any kind of confusion. Sooooooo I hope someone takes up the challenge, he/she will have all the help I can give.

Ewwwwwww Hamachi! Learn to port forward! D: Or at least, learn to use the DMZ settings on your router. I havent seen too many that come without DMZ settings. If you are among a family of many and your parents dont want you toying with the ports then ask and see if it has a dmz setting. The DMZ puts you outside the firewall. (Aka: Only add your computers IP to the list when you are going to do server stuff!) Its highly insecure as it leaves your computer open for all to get into.

Even with this said, research what I have said. Just take the time to read.

Thats my suggestion regaurding MP servers :>

Lol, I use Hamachi because I love it, I port forward when I play with RL friends, but I have been using Hamachi since a long time ago and I have never had any trouble other than having my msn voice conversation ocasionally cut, but that's all. I'm the main user when it comes down to computers home and I know that it doesn't work for some people, but it does for me. That's why I wanted someone to write a guide, I'm ok the way I am, lol, but some people, as you said, may need to do some changes in their port configuration and I guess some parents are not that permissive, lol.

    Hello,

i actually hope the server system is gonna be like Minecraft / Terraria ... with fixed inventorys (every server | different inventorys) ...

    Regards,

Terraria keeps your character's inventory for every server/world.
I kind of also hope characters are fixed to one server/universe. I hated it when my friends would bring in OP stuff when we were supost to be starting new, lol. I actually like starting over if it's a new world.

I know. I just want it like Minecraft + Terraria ... some sort of.

Well, with a bit of Terraria and the server-system of Minecraft I think we all would agree with it.

I have never had problems using Hamachi, but I would rather run a dedicated server for the game for my friends to freely join without having to download any third-party programs.

If I recall correctly, they're aiming for a Steam release, with Steam's server support. I would assume that means it uses a server structure similar to Steam's, meaning that persisting competitive or cooperative multiplayer would involve finding a server to consistently visit and agreeing as a group to focus on that one, but with more clear and public listing of servers and ease of joining friends. Alternately, making one's own server.

Unless other information contradicted this? I really don't know.

Do you realize the grinding that had to be done then in Terraria? :p

Terraria was originally aiming for Steam server support as well. But it never happened. I am not crossing my fingers on this, but I am assuming that it will be similar to Terraria. (which actually was super simple, once you got your ports forwarded) The problem with this is that people who don't own their routers can't forward the ports so we end up with a lot of teens and college students who don't have administrator access to their ports, and they are forced to use hamachi or similar programs.

Kinda off-topic, but I still want to know whether players will be able to be on different planets while playing multiplayer with each other.
