Multiplayer will be individual servers, much like Minecraft is set up to my own knowledge. There may or may not be offocial servers hosted by Starbounds team, but I surmise ones run by other players will be more popular, or more fun to play. No offense to the devs of course.
Pretty sure it's gonna be mostly user-hosted servers similar to Terrarria and Minecraft. I'm hoping the process for setting them up and hosting them is easier. Lord knows it's a pain in the ass for an average joe to try and host a server for the two games mentioned above without either having to follow a series of semi-annoyingly complicated steps or downloading additional programs to help.
Knowing the Starbound team, they know this as well, and I think i remember a couple messages where they said theyd work it out to see if itd be easier on users. I personally enjoy the difficult route, despite shortcomings that not everybody can set up a server, this also has the advantage that not just ANYONE can set up a server.
True. It's quite frustrating for the people who can't figure it out though. I eventually gave up on playing Minecraft with my friends because none of us could figure out how to get a multiplayer server working.
Most likely will be a Terraria/Minecraft-like server system, but supposedly easier (Server browser?). No doubt will there be severs with the maximum player capacity cranked up to 11.
Terraria/Minecraft alike 99%, but easier. For example installing mods in server will be WAY easier, on which you simply have to click a button and wait a few mins while the mods download and install themselves for you.
In minecraft i can do an server easily with hamachi. The only thing different is that client and server are separate programs, rather than a single one.
I prefer user-hosted, because you can have private servers that way, and easier to deal with griefers.
