So, steam just finished the latest update of starbound and i got a MSVCR71.dll error.
So did some research, and google tells me it's a windows error.
Yet it only gives me the message after i open the starbound launcher.

Shall i try to re-install starbound from steam
or is it a bug coming from the latest update?

    Pre thanks!

I would recommend, at the very least, verifying Starbound's files, if a recent update caused this.

Yea, it didn't do it. Still getting the message when i start up starbound. But the game runs fine, so not entirely sure if it's a danger of any kind.
    Is it?

I'm not sure myself but I have the same issue. Game seems to work fine so...yay?

That dll is part of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2003 (7.1) runtime. This was never released as a standalone package and requires the full ".NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package" to be installed. (I'm unsure if thiss will install correctly on win7.)

The easiest colution is just to grab the DLL and not install the whole thing and for that I point you here:

You don't have to put the DLL in the system32 folder either, you can just put it within Starbound/win32/launcher/ next to the other exes.

It worked when I put them in the appropriate folder, but didn't work when they were in starbound/win32

Works when I put them in the "launcher" folder.

Just seems rather strange to me that prior to today's update I did not have to have these and now I do after the update. Obviously they have done something that now requires those files, would kind of like to know what it is in .NET 1.1 that they need. I'm running Windows 8 by the way

    Thanks for the help.

Oops, my mistake, since starbound.exe is started from the launcher the working directory is ./win32/launcher/ and not ./win32/. Post updated.

    "...MSVCR71.DLL is missing..."

If this is NOT causing the launcher to FAIL to start:
    Ignore it for now.

If this is causing the launcher to FAIL to start:
Download the latest version of OpenSSL (1.0.1e)
BACK UP the libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll files in your Starbound\win32\launcher directory.
Replace the libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll files in your Starbound\win32\launcher directory with the ones from the OpenSSL package. [This is optional, really. Installing the latest OpenSSL should place the files where the launcher can find them, as long as you remove the files from the starbound\win32\launcher directory.]

The latest OpenSSL binaries are available here http://slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html
