I know elevator ideas have been posted before, but I thought I'd put my own spin on the concept. The backbone of my idea is a universal railtrack system. Place a section of track on a valid background and drag it in a straight line toward any of the 8 points of the compass. Once you are done, you now have options to customize the mode of conveyance based on how you laid your track: Stops attach a stop anywhere on the track, and the platform will slow and stop there automatically as it approaches, pausing for a few seconds before moving on to the next stop or returning to the beginning if it reaches the end of the track (unless programmed to wait until called). Each stop includes a panel (that requires a solid horizontal surface adjacent to the stop) that you can use to call the platform. Platform Types Depending on how the railtrack is laid, different options will available. All platforms have an 'Express Button' to bypass a stop without slowing. Here are few I have thought of based on direction: Capsule (Vertical only) a single person elevator designed to rapidly travel between two points. Best used for reaching the deepest parts of a world in a big hurry. Mining elevators and passenger elevators (vertical only) aesthetically different but functionally the same, a mining elevator is an uncaged platform, whereas a passenger elevator is fully enclosed. Industrial elevator (omni directional) simply an automated conveyor belt that can be used to haul materials from one place to another, such as buckets for water, lava, and other building materials. This is the only elevator that can be run in any direction aside from the gondola. attached to the industrial railtrack, the Bucket Excavator is a vehicle that is used to not only lay track underground, but to dig large tunnels as it goes, transporting the materials along the track behind it. (see pic on 2nd page). Train (Horizontal only) Straightforward horizontal people mover, can have different aesthetics such as simple platform, lightrail, bullet train, etc. Industrial platform aka Funicular or inclined lift (Diagonal only) a mainstay of scifi, the huge industrial platform that moves slowly diagonal down or up. Gondola (omni directional) useful for traversing large caverns without destroying the environment with platforms and bridges Space Elevator (vertical only, duh!) Useful for transferring unique resources from a planet to your ship for transport to another planet.
Hmmm these ideas aren't terrible... and it does put it down in a good manner, I offer my support in hopes that others will join and agree!
The space elevator seems a bit redundant with the idea of beaming up to the ship and if you look at a few videos in the inventory it has a send to ship thing. It would be nice to make faster travel spots but you may as well set up teleporter pads with power where you open it then choose which teleporter pad to go to.
Diagonal platform, ceiling gun-turrets everywhere. Guard stations near every exit...yes...yes! My military base will finally be COMPLETE! *evil laughter while lightning strikes in the background* I quite approve of all of these ideas though, +1
Neat, a elevator, handy for moving those heavy - super condensed cargo loads and securing secret underground bases.
I always hoped they would do this with terraria, but they never did. I had crazy dropshafts in that game with pools of water every 500 feet to land in and a ladder up both sides.
*facepalm* i like this idea too i would love to see some type of elevator implemented into this game WE THE PEOPLE CRY OUT UNTO THE DEVELOPERS IMPLEMENT ELEVATORS
Good idea, I hope its implemented into the game. Great way to get into my secret underground head quarters and the industrial elevator will work great for moving my things around too.
This made me think... Can we have elevator crusher traps? Maybe fill an elevator with explosives and make it pick someone up, lock them in, and explode, all while playing beautiful music.
Listening to horrible elevator music then being killed? Awesome. Also, what if you could build a rail to an area, but design a vehicle that rides it?
Elevators are ingenious. Would save a lot of digging and stepping and whatnot for making an optimal mining facility. Be it for stripmining however, a minecart system would be effectively important to remove large amounts from below the surface quickly.
