2 mil really isn't that much where game sales are concerned. :)

It is for a indie game being developed by a team this small. To be honest, if I was a developer, I'd have expected a MAXIMUM of 250k. At most.

    EDIT: In pre-orders, I mean.

"What are your plans to bring Starbound to Steam?
We’re approved for Steam! We aim to get the beta up on Early Access as soon as it’s ready."

By crowdsourcing standards, it's not too bad. Not exactly Star Citizen, but it has still done quite well.

Exactly what I first thought when I read the OPs post.. They clambering the $25m mark right now?
What is sad is that I'm starting to feel feature creep is a big asset with Star Citizen right now, Something I'm glad Starbound avoided.

Money really does make or break a game. Its made it for Starbound, Its my opposite thoughts for Star Citizen however.. I feel they may start distracting from the original concept of the game too far and well.. ruin it. :(

I think you mean 'liability' or possibly 'danger'. :)
Chris Roberts had always planned to create a tripleA game with SC though, and if they didn't get all the funds from crowdsourcing he planned that they would get publisher backing to make up the funds. Oh, and 'detracting'. :)

Thanks for taking the time out of your life to help a lowly Irishman with his English. :)

I can understand Roberts vision but.. I 'uno.. tricky one for me. Crowdsourcing helped him tremendously and Its showing that huge success stories can come from them, However saying that! I shoved my 45 euros to them, Ain't gonna give them anymore until something solid comes around.

Im starting to hate that Term now.. AAA - All I think off when its mentioned is EA. And other publishers that re-roll the same gobshite year in, Year out and make Millions from doing so.

Sorry, I'm not usually a grammar (or spelling) nazi!
Yeah, I backed them as well, and have had second thoughts since then. I'm currently considering that money as good as lost - I don't expect to get a game that I'll enjoy.
I have some hope that the industry is starting to turn, with the backlash that the big publishers have suffered recently, as well as the success that some kickstarters have had. Or at least I'd like to have some hope...

I wasn't digging xD Unlike some, I don't mind being corrected :p English isn't my native (Gaelic is) and as much as I like to think my english is readable and somewhat decent, Its always a learning curve :p Especially considering majority of it was learnt from playing Zelda and other games, Speaking to English speaking people and whatnot.

Seems I'm not alone in my thoughts behind the game right now then :( so far I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, I trust them that they wont move from the original concept too much and when it eventually turns around i'l judge it then. Right now however I'm wondering if even my power rig would be even able to support the game in a state that I feel is enjoyably playable.

AAA companies make me think of one thing, A snowball monopoly, I feel that the whole plethora of Games created by these guys today are far below the standard that those in previous generations have created.
For me, There is no story, No charm, No.. elegance to gaming nowadays, Its all re-rolls of past affairs, Games today lack that human touch of charm, wit, great story telling and instead prefer to wow its audience with next gen graphics.

There is simply, no soul in anything today.

Games like Final fantasy, Skyrim (Oh yes I went there), Zelda, have started to fall into that pit where they have lost that story telling wonder that they once had.
To me, the predecessors of these games were much better.

The only way we gonna get anything like those golden oldies past in today's world is by trusting these indie developers who work for a pittance to do it for us.
Because its gone from the mainstream titles that once offered it.

    Interesting method of learning English!
Couldn't agree more. A lot of people like to say that people who prefer older games are just looking back at them through rose-tinted glasses, but I think it's undeniable that there was far more innovation and creativity evident in older titles. Nowadays the big publishers only seem to bring out sequels to games which have proven popular in the past, and even then manage to miss what made the previous games so popular...

The big publishers can't even take a hint from huge indie successes like Minecraft.
