EDIT - I think my over reaction has been subdued.. please ignore

(disclaimer - I am ranting, it may seem petty, but I really needed to get it off my chest)

Excited, I returned to Starbound after having logged 200 hours in beta.

After playing through the first few hours with no issues, I happily left my first planet and landed on the second, A moderately difficult forest planet. I spent time exploring killing the wildlife and greeting the Florans, (as a peace loving Hylotl) no issues whatsoever.

However, as I left the Floran village in search of a Floran in need, a gang of cultist looking bullies approached me with guns. I thought 'no worries, this is a quest I had logged.' One bullet later I'm dead. Annoyed, I respawned from my ship onto the planet to go and face them, but to my surprise they had already travelled a good distance from where I had died now to my planet spawn point. Running from them to get a good vantage point I ran into a common planet enemy that I had killed in 2 hits no problem earlier only to have 80% of my health done in one hit, and my same weapon do a mere 5 damage to it. Once again I died.

Perhaps I was just going crazy?

I respawned on the planet to instantly die again at the hands of the gang and common enemies. I can no longer spawn on the planet at all without a hoard waiting to kill me. I just don't understand how this planet can go from easily traversable with iron gear to 1 hit kill? (nothing about my gear or weapons changed)

I'm now stuck with a boat load of quests that I see no possible way of completing in the near future

I'm left hoping this is a glitch? regardless, it has soured my experience.

So, are you doing a quest that imply killing thouse guys or is it a random encounter?
Quests that ask you to kill an outlaw or a boss are pretty hard at the beggining, 2 hits can kill you and they are extremely sturdy as well.

If it is a random encounter on a forest planet, there is no way you are being killed in 2 hits. It can be a bit hard at the beggining, but you should be able to resist more than that.

Thanks for joining the convo :)

I have initiated the Floran outlaw quest, and the hoard of guys is definitely them. The problem is that all the planets normal spawning monster have somehow also been changed to be way more powerful, and in turn my weapons are also much less effective against them. (sounds crazy I know but this is definitely what has happened) I am assuming that if I abandon the quests the outlaw gang may disappear? The planet enemies may go back to normal, If that's the case fine, I can deal with that. (though I have to 'assume' this as there is no ingame indication that that would be the case)

My main issue and reason for the rant is that its frustrating that I cannot even spawn back on the planet without being bombarded. Seems like a poor design. I have no problem with the quests outlaws being difficult, its the issue that it has caused so much frustration and problems for my play through. I wasn't expecting easy, (I've played this game a lot) but this is just hideously painful.

typing out my problems cant rectify my poor Fina's (my character's) current state, I guess its just a little therapeutic for me.

Was it multiple naturally spawning monsters or just one that was more powerful than normal? If it was just one, then it's likely because it's not a naturally spawning monster at all, but one of the outlaw's pets. Many quest enemies have capture pods that contain an ordinary monster but at a much higher level.

And yeah, quest enemies tend to be ridiculously powerful unless your armor/weapons are at least one or two tiers above the planet you're on.

At least you didn't get a quest that had fanatic scientists that were close to village, and end up killing me and a guard of said village. Which in turn caused another guard to agro onto me... Oh the first one killed happened to be the quest giver. This was before the initial release of 1.0 however; on the unstable branch. Lost a couple florans due to that. At least it was only 2 guards that agroed, but sadly one of the floran i was working on happened to... be caught in the middle.

I really aught to change that particular house into a colony house so it doesn't happen again. Did though turn a couple rooms into my own colony deed places.

Yeah I have gotten quests like that many a time. quests are more... ticky at times. At least those ones. Especially if all you have is the tier of the planet equipped.

I personally don't mind it, then again I have a determination. Be lucky one of them didn't have a rocket launcher. ><
As above some do have ball pets they throw out. Those are quite a challenge depending on the pet thrown out.

Haha thanks for making me feel a bit better.... it just sucks to be enjoying the story and then be so abruptly destroyed and left distraught dispite all efforts to be cautious.

    (Pets, perhaps... )
