Most guns are useless.

Lol dude, give it up. You are the only one that addressed it that way. Instead of me not making "joke" posts perhaps you should not be cynical and hostile. Or is that asking too much on these forums.

On another note, my rocket launcher one hits things with very low energy cost. Seems pretty good to me. My assault rifle sucks though. Drains energy and doesn't do nearly enough damage.

Playing at later difficulties, energy regeneration increases massively, making a larger variety of weapons useful.

I have been using dual pistols for a higher damage alternative to my sniper rifle. A machine pistol also works well with a melee weapon.

While I am not sure standard weapons should be balanced around these higher energy levels, I feel that they are - or are at least close to balanced at these higher levels.

i found a pistol on a level 10 planet in sector X earlier off of one of those huge variations of monsters it did 87 DPS useless crap everywhere i wish i could set it to never pick up random weapon drops

My friend and I are currently in Sector 4 and we've found a decent handful of guns, 90% are pure ass. Out of the 15 or so guns we've found, here are the 3 that were useful.

Rocket Launcher - 60ish damage which is decent, has AOE & knockback, decent RoF, Energy use and projectile speed.
Grenade Launcher - similar to the rpg, but lobbed grenades, again useful.
Standard Assault Rifle - My friend has the gun so I'm not sure of the exact dmg, but fires fast, low energy, and decent dmg.

All of the rest have been crap, guns either have high energy/low dmg, or some ability making them crap, I found one that shoots bullets that fly out at snail pace (slower than walking speed, no joke) then after 10 feet or so speed up...W..T...F, the only use I've found with it was fighting bosses or rare mobs after trapping them in blocks so they can't move.

It's beta, I realize, so my suggestions are

High RoF/Medium dmg - These are the only guns that I feel are decent, think they just need a small dmg boost.
Slow ROF/High Dmg guns - They need a huge buff to the dmg, or better knockback
Shotguns - They either need a giant dmg boost to balance energy use, or large dmg boost and energy cost reduced.

Specialty guns - These almost need their own section based on the ability.
Snail Bullet - base projectile needs to be faster, or have a feature like it follows your mouse pointer
Tri bullet - the spread needs to be reduced, unless I'm shooting through a door and want to hit a guy on the floor above, it just serves no purpose.
Ricochet - I rather enjoyed this ability, no complaints
RPG - I love the gun, no complaints.
Grenade Launcher - Just got it recently but no complaints,

Nobody else addressed it at all because it adds nothing to the discussion.

On topic, I've said it before but I'd really like it if they'd add a gunsmithing station eventually - that would do a lot to help make firearms more obtainable, and, ideally, more on par with melee weapons. I understand melee will always do more damage due to risk vs. reward but right now anything other than the launchers is pretty bad.

Well then, I applaud you for acknowledging something that added nothing to the discussion only to drag it on further so that we may all continue to be graced by useless comments such as this one. Again, give it up dude. I've added my two cents - You've just chosen to attack me. Who has more useless comments I wonder?

I agree that pretty much all of the guns you get from the sky pirates are worthless. I'm in Delta Sector, and the gun I currently use I found in a chest on a Delta planet. It's a sniper rifle, and it does 100+ damage per shot, but has a slow firing speed, but it's great, because I can take off half of a monster's life before he gets within attacking range of me, and if I'm far enough, I can kill it in 2 shots before it gets to me.

In my opinion the sniper that you say is useful is the only gun overpowered in terms of balance. In the future their energy cost should be increase a bit. Why? Because most snipers even with continuous fire will not deplete any energy or maybe very slowly for higher tier snipers. Guns in general needs more balance than the melee weapons at the moment. The wide variety of melee weapons still need lots of balancing and the guns needs way way more.

Edit: Let me also point out that I think, in term of guns, the grenade launcher would be the closest to balanced at the moment. Well at least the end game ones I am currently using.

I hardly noticed the energy depletion of my sniper rifle, probably because I take 2 or 3 shots and then switch to my melee, but I think you may be right. The ability to indefinitely fire a sniper rifle seems a bit overpowered. I wholly agree with raising the energy cost so that you wouldn't be able to do that.

And of course, I do think that melee weapons could use a rebalance, but that's for another thread :)

I've played 70 something hours and I've found 2 guns from chests. The drop rate feels like Diablo 3.

I came into this thread ready to make the same complaint, but realized 2 pages in that it is most likely that Chucklefish hasn't implemented guns into the game fully. The second post on this very thread opened my eyes to the signs of incompleteness. My complaint has been replaced with resigned patience. Early Beta is early.

Very true. Next patch will be interesting if it has gun drops.

I guessI never really bothered with guns for the most part until I got to X sector and got myself a 2k dps short range "sniper"(it shoots a weird fire ball in the air up to 15 blocks in front before it poofs, weird) and a 4k damage per shot grenade launcher(low fire rate). I tore through the pevious tiers and didn't bother with the weapons sice I found decent ones in chests that carried unil Delta and then X. Quite fun though.

I feel like guns are a bit better now. Shotguns aren't worthless because of their energy costs anymore, but its still down to preferences.

They still don't drop off of mobs yet which sucks.
