Starbound is an amazing game, with beautiful graphics and scenery, and awesome gameplay. But, in my opinion at least, the game would look a LOT better if the pixels weren't as large. I think it would be cool to introduce an option in-game to make it so pixels are made smaller, and more defined, resulting in a less blocky look. Although, I must admit, I have no idea how difficult this would be, or if it's even possible to do without having to re-design the game. PS: The Hype Train to 1.0 has no breaks, and is going at Light-Speed...And I just missed my stop. Damn...
The large pixsels mixed with the smaller ones in the backround are a part of the unique charm starbound has. and making them smaller would take that away that and replace it with another type of charm and that would piss a lot of people off. also you would have to redesigne the hole game so i will have to say i dislike the idea
Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (or Afterbirth, I don't know if it already was there in Rebirth) has a philter option which makes it's graphics less pixelated. I don't really know how it works, but it's there, and it works. If something like that can be implemented in Starbound... well, I'd personally find it interesting. The framerate is affected by it, tho.
The only way I can think of to do this asides from remaking every texture in the game at a higher resolution to fit the option (almost certainly not going to happen) is some sort of depixelization algorithm such as: SOURCE The problems being that this would almost certainly increase processor or GPU needs by a completely scientific f[redacted]ton and is sometimes prone to loss of detail, counterintuitively.
