Remember to keep it cool, guys. If this thread goes downhill again, I'll lock it.

Is ok Jonesy, no one is attacking anyone, just having a chill conversation about the potential consequences for the potential addition to snowflakism to the game.

As someone who doesn't like to identify as strictly male or female, gender neutral (they/them) would be a super nice addition, if possible. And being able to wear male/female clothes despite your gender. I'm super glad that there's non-gender judging marriage already!

From what I see in the screenshots, it looks like the game's doing well on the skintone? A wide range seems to be a pretty cool feature to be implemented.

I read through all the posts...I'm not one for conflict, so my two cents on the matter are: It's unfortunate, but aside from the she/her, he/him, they/them prounouns, it'll probably be better/easier(?) to make one's own individual game that lets one use any prounouns. Also Bioware is a good company for adding in diverser characters.

I feel that even adding a 'they/them' for every person would just be a lot of additional work for nothing

Well I'm not sure? Quick fix adopt children and play how you want to play, Don't see a need to go further than He/She. If I was in your position I guess it could be frustrating but for now just wait for game to even be released.

You can play as a male or female, make them look how you like and romance (and marry) who you like. That's progressive enough. Choosing pronouns is silly. So is a trans option. Next thing people will want is Kin-types and an option for head mates.

That is not to say you CAN'T play as trans or a Kin-type or even have head mates; just keep it in mind and play your character accordingly. Not everything in a game has to explicitly say things. I played my farmer in Harvest Moon - Back to Nature as a foul mouthed city kid, but went to church on Sundays because he was (mostly) Catholic. I literally walked him over to the church every Sunday and stood inside for an hour; talked to who was there, and went back at it, yelling obscenities to the sky while running after just one too many fields because I was overly ambitious. He gave things away to certain characters for no mechanical or explicit story benefit because they were his friends. Maybe I'm just used to using my imagination while playing a game and picking up where it leaves off. I don't need cutting edge graphics to tell me what I am seeing and I don't need a dozen options for my character's backstory to have it fleshed out. I can do that just fine in my head.

Select female, dress her how you like, maybe give her a slightly androgynous name and tell yourself, "Yeah, she's rocking a straight six" with no car in sight and play as you would.

Have an imagination. It's more vital to play than any game or toy and will serve you far better than having played with or through anything. Your mind is a powerful partner in the story both you and the game are telling. You are not a passive party; not everything has to be done for you. Enough of a mechanical foundation will be present to do just about anything you like.

Maybe not the most popular opinion, but it's mine.

Interesting the mods have started coming into this subboard recently.

I take that as a sign.

I've been following development of SV very loosely for a while, actually. I was a huge Harvest Moon fan as a kid so once I found this I read up on it :)

Plus you guys have have a lot of trolls considering how small the community is :p

I agree. Being inclusive is great, but the most I could ever see CA adding is being able to pick from a set of pronouns. As we all know it's impossible to please everyone.

I was really happy when I saw this post cause that means I wasn't the only one who thought there should be more pocs in the game, but this topic seems to be much more concerned on one issue rather than the other.

I was pretty disappointed to see only 2 pocs (3 if you include Gus) in the entire game. I understood it from Harvest Moon seeing as it was a Japanese game, but I sorta expected differently with this one. I'm not super surprised since this seemingly always happens in games...

(But yeah this topic opened up a huge pile of worms lol....)

Most of the "white" people in Japanese anime and video games are actually Asians with the anime style, the localization just renamed everyone with white names, so that's why you don't see a lot of people of colors in Japanese games since they are usually Japanese, not white. With Stardew Valley, the style is more cartoonish, and it's very easy to create distinct ethnic faces, as soon in the diversity of the villagers. I wouldn't mind more diversity, but it's not a requirement. If it happens, good, if not, that's fine, too.

Yeah that's why I understand why there's one main race in most Japanese games, because that's the main race in that country. I guess I just expected something different from a game made America, although I'm not sure why cause that seems to never happen here anyways. Oh well I guess. /shrug

There are quite some mods changing the race of several NPCs, though. I heartily recommend them for people who seeks diversity in their SDV.
