More bricks!

    So, it's not a big secret that plenty of us are also happy Terraria players and one thing that is a great joy for us is building. You can say, "oh, thanks, Captain Obvious!", but it's not that simple, however. Let's remember: in Terraria there is a completely vast amount of block types and many of them can be recrafted in some different material. For instance, obsidian can be made into bricks, hellstone can also be made into bricks. Of course for those who want their house to look rich there are gold, silver and other bricks made from proper bars.
    You got it? Yes! So the thing that has driven me insane recently is THE LACK OF BRICKS! Tons... No, TONS of obsidian, bones, flesh, slime, magmarock & so on & on & on turned out to be completely useless (in esthetic way, of course: those who like unrefened wood or cobblestone for their buildings, you may not read further but, hey, progressive civilized builders also have rights =D ) and so I can build nothing well-shaped but wooden/stone brick first-night-in-Terraria-style shacks, packed dirt shacks, high-tech labs or personal Avian Temple or tomb from proper bricks. And I think that for now it's a shame, but not complete though 'cause beta is beta and I know, that some good feedbacks such as mine first one (yeah, I'm still thinking that it's rather good =) ) will definitely do if we want Starbound to be an ultimate game in its way.
    P.S. As The New Year comes nearer day by day I ask devs to be our Santas and bring our community of builders a lot of materials so we could make our dreams of castles or personal temples/pyramids etc come true. Rock on! ;-)

    More brick variants are definitely on my wanting list too, it really gives a use to normally excessive materials for builders.

    Besides the terraria-like brick variants I would like to suggest the following;

    -Several subtypes of bricks. Different brick patterns, for example for obsidian bricks there could be diagonally placed bricks, large bricks and small bricks.
    -Stepping outside the brick realm, but to a closely related realm. Decorative blocks, like obsidian columns and decoratively patterned obsidian blocks (with for example obsidian blocks with a meander). These blocks could be made in such a way that they truly enhance a building made of a certain kind of brick. Of course these blocks should look nice solely or with other materials.

    *I would like to add that each time I use the word 'obsidian' this should be replaceable by many materials, like gold, or silver.

    Yes, that's for sure. And what about the columns, as you said, it would be very nice if the ones placed on the background looked great. You know, in Terraria there was a single moment that you wanted to create a passage like in the Dungeon but you couldn't add some background columns in order to make it in some kind of Greek or Egyptian ancient style if you know what I mean =)

    I would like to see a mixture required to make certain bricks too, like concrete, reinforced concrete etc.

    Concrete requiring fine sand and cobblestone, or gravel. To get reinforced concrete you also require iron bars. The output rate would be greater then normal bricks because of all the extra materials required. Say x5 for plain concrete and x6-7 for reinforced would be fair?

    Great idea =) But I think it would be nice even withX3 for plain and x5 for reinforced. And also some bricks like magmarock maybe should be invulnerable to explosions in order to protect your building from griefers or just unintended grenade drop =D

    I was very disappointed when I came across this cool looking stone near the core of a planet and found out that it just ends up being cobblestone that also looks exactly the same than the "normal" cobblestone in the inventory and when you place it, but doesn't even stack with it.
    And why can I not make purple/green/blue/red packed dirt from purple/green/blue/red dirt?

    Yes, some features still look pretty ridiculous at this point. It's not that bad though 'cause we're still at the 1st stage of beta so I'm looking forward to see some positive changes in brick types. And yes, I like that deep cobblestone too and also I'd like to see it as a standalone material with proper bricks of course =) One day maybe I could open my inventory saying, "bricks... Bricks are everywhere!"
