guys guys guys... tsk tsk tsk... Let me make a count for everyone who's seen all of the art for the game.. let me think... hmm. gonna have to go with a fat zero(including myself) So why oh why.. are we arguing about art with all we've seen is a blip of it?

Fun fact: Not to long ago Pink was considered the manly colour and blue girly.

Sarzael isn't even saying "pink was considered manly and blue girly" just to be contrarian, it's just plain true. Pink was bright, active, fervent, manly. It didn't screw around. Blue was passive, lethargic, restful, womanly. A quote from a trade publication from 1918:

"The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl."

Although I disagree with the OP, what does the fact that pink used to be considered a masculine color have to do with anything at all?
Anyway I don't think the game is too childish. Ironically, what I think is childish is worrying that something is too childish... really if the game was a little childish (getting sick of that word) it should only increase the target age range as I wouldn't think adults would care about a few cutesy monster parts.

I was trying to help eliminate sexist beliefs regarding what colors "belong" to which sex :(.

And I'm pretty certain that everything we've seen is the extreme early game. If this were Terraria, we'd be seeing slimes of various colors, flying fish (since 1.2), walking goldfish, and maybe zombies (Terraria's zombies are much less scary than even the nasty Warrior of Chaos-looking knight [http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=47525&d=1225217691] from one of the recent updates). The difference here is that we have the advantage of random generation, so there's many thousands (roughly, x! number of monsters, where x is the number of parts that fit together) of early game monsters, so there's still all the cutesy, easy to kill stuff.

I'm sure once you're touching down on difficulty 100 worlds to get rare, badass equipment, you'll be seeing hulking monstrosities that would make a Space Marine pray for the Emperor's protection.

Really we've seen a lot. At least for those of us who have been members since early 2012. We've seen more than enough for someone to be able to create an opinion of the art style.

well, as someone who watches bart stream I see a lot of late tier gameplay ;)

  11. I'll also be one to say that we haven't scratched the surface of monster generation. As someone mentioned these are tier 1 monsters we are seeing, I have a feeling we will see more sinister beasts as we progress.

Also as molly had said she chooses the colors the monsters will have before she posts them. Monster colors will be chosen off a pallette that is similar to the planets colors so they match.

This is all a hunch I have, until release we won't know for sure.

I'm 34 and the monsters look fine to me. The monsters fit the art style of the game. I'm not sure why you'd want a cartoony art style game but not want the cartoony monsters.

Btw I'm generally a serious type of gamer, I don't go for pokemon games for about 15 years and generally buy games with a mature art style, but who could resist this game? Not even me.

Same here! I think this art suits this type of game! Who ever heard of a 2d sandbox game with "realistic" graphics?
