Is it just me or does it seem that the monster random generation parameters are set to make monsters look like pokemon aimed at like 10 year olds only? Specially since children and young teens are already going to love this kind of game. My case in point the pink thing on the 11th Nov update, and ive seen many more that are either bright pink or just straight childish, no offense, seriously.

Seems like it'll be such a great game and even the race people/monsters seem great, but the random ones i have seen so far are way to cartoony, and bright pink, really? Unfortunately fighting and killing random monsters on random planets while adventuring isnt going to be very enjoyable for me, in fact i know its going to end up making me feel like this game wasnt made for me, because im older than like 13 lol. Which sucks because that should be one of the best things about the game.

Is it just me? Had no problems with Po monsters, least they looked like monsters and not just some cartoon cut out.

Or is your target audience for this game indeed the young teenagers to younger? Would be good to know where things stand beforehand.

Also not wanting them to look gruesome, but terraria for example, had nothing bright pink and/or cartoony, yet nothing gruesome and/or "mature audience only" quite good really and a perfect medium. Gave the feel of realism thats great for a build'em up exploration adventure.

yeah, the random monsters are WAY too goofy, especially in color choice,

most of them are pink, purple or red.

I think the devs only showed tier 1 (or so) generated monster...

I'd say it is the "WTF IS THAT?!?" reaction they are trying to capture and from what I have seen, they have captured it very well. Pink or not, you are still gonna poop bricks when you spot one with your torch in a dark cavern running at you.

I have two nieces, and a Nephew, I also live with a couple who have a 9 year old, my nephew is 13, my nieces both younger. The only reason my nephew enjoys Terraria is because he gets to play along side myself his father and mother. Past that he doesn't like playing alone or with other friends, my nieces and the young lady I live with dislike it as well. Whereas my 30something sister and brother in law have 400 hours logged into Terraria, please explain the first part of your statment better, because to me? It makes almost no sense. So bright pink is childish? The My little Pony fans are going to murder you in your sleep, rightfully so, I'll get into that more in the next few responses.

Look in the Randomly generated monster thread, there's this wierd tank monkey thing, the rape turtle, a few others that are neat looking they aren't all just bright pink. As far as "cartoony" looks I don't get that statment eithier, forgive me. I think the art-style of the game might be lending itself to your labels as acrtoony, as most of the enemies seem to mesh well with one another.

I highly doubt it's just you, but much like with the Po, there are always two sides to any debate, discussion, arguement, or opinion.

As a 24 year old male, I have a feeling I'm going to love this game a ton, cutesy monsters and all, so I don't know what their target may be, but they definately have me on board with the game that's for sure. I'm sure alot of others feel the same way, just because some of the monsters don't appeal to you, doesn't mean it doesn't appeal to others the same age as you or older. Like above, I'm not a fan of MLP (I get bored watching anything that has more then 30 episodes generally, so it's hard for me to be a "fan" of anything.) but just because you, or I don't like them, doesn't mean that those who do should be lumped into an age group, which is what it seems like you're trying to do.

You mean like the glowing pink Chaos elemental? You're right, it wasn't bright pink at all. I'm so colorblind it hurts. IIRC wasn't there a slime in the Hollow that was bright pink or purple as well? Don't get me wrong I'm not saying all TErraria monsters are that way it may only be 2 or 3 out of X, but the random monster generator has the potential for millions of combinations, don't judge so harshly on a few monsters.

Where on earth did you pull THAT from?

I don't mean to sound rude or crast to anyone, I think most people aren't very fluent in Anime, as Requiem from The Darkness is such a dark, gruesome and bloody anime I don't see how it has anything to do with Starbound. I think the person you quoted just sort of lumps "anime" into things like pokemon or something, but I agree, as an Anime lover (Still a novice though! Feel free to PM me suggestions of good Anime to watch) I agree with your statment, and question as to where he pulled that from.

Protip: Saying "no offense" doesn't prevent you from being/appearing to be an asshat, it does the opposite.

"Actually, the monsterizer I use has sliders to switch between the color options. I usually change them to colors I like before posting the monster."

Not just the pinkness though, but if Molly is using a colour slider then at least thats half the thing, but the cartoony/pokemon/young-teenager-only look of the monsters still for me is a big issue, as combat and fighting awesome big random monsters is a major aspect of an interplanetary exploration game.

"Protip: Saying "no offense" doesn't prevent you from being/appearing to be an asshat, it does the opposite."

Thats fine, im willing to look like whatever i have to, i care about the game that much.

"So bright pink is childish? The My little Pony fans are going to murder you in your sleep, rightfully so, I'll get into that more in the next few responses."

You're trying to tell me bright pink isn't childish just because your children only play terraria because they play it with you, right.. how is bright pink not childish exactly? You never actually said that, its weird, because thats the colour parents also deck their little daughtrs room out in, pink, both in real life and movies, because its bright pink, why even bother try to argue about, again, bright pink?

Grown-up hardcore my little pony fans arent really grown up, so this still applies (grown-up my little pony hardcore fans, lol...)

Please read the post and understand before replying, thanks.

(not wanting to look gruesome, or dark and moody etc etc didnt think i had to elaborate, thought gruesome would cover all that for most people)

One tiny little (literally tiny little, in game, and one) insignificant blob that is also very rare as it has more life and drops a gold coin on death, and while its bright pink its not also cartoony.
