Monsters are pissing me off

    That's it,I REALLY have enough.

    And when I mean enough,I mean that it's a negative influence on my gameplay experience.


    So what's the good of monsters anyway?All they do,is run screaming to you like braindead retards the second they see you for absolutely no reason,and just keep stupidly doing that until you hit them twice with your current planet tier weapon and then you win the battle because you have a bigger stick!And the birds,just tell me,what the hell?Those are not birds,those are flying monsters that,for incredibly obscure reason,are full of aggressivity and breathe elemental forces when that's not blood or even bullets.And you're minding your own business,but they will come to you and "aghagha imma bird die die".

    That is incredibly stupid and annoying.The very second time you have to fight something in this game it turns so boring you're actually missing Wow grinding quests.Also,it always ruins the current mood by immediatly starting some "epicish" music like if it was a battle of the gods.

    I'M BEEING ASSAULTED BY A CHRISTMAS-ELF SHAPED POKEMON THAT IS A THIRD OF MY HEIGHT.

    And he doesn't care he's ridiculously small and has no natural weapons;he will jump at you and still does the same damage than the rest.Like,you see the difference between a bear and a cat?The cat is the size of the bear's mouth.It weights even less than his left hand.


    Now let me tell you what happened today.I was on a threat 10 planet,defiling the natural resources and landscape gathering fuel.There are isolated avian homes.And then I was busy flying to boringly strike the elf-shaped pokemons,when I see a NPC running in my direction asking "What have you done?",so I thought she (yes I quickly noticed the only detail that permits such identification) was a hippie or at least an ecolo;but then I noticed she was really sexy nice looking.I mean a blue avian with that iroquois haircut and that very,very tight sort of dwindling skirt,I was like hey,maybe I should try veganism someday.Then I saw she was run after by two glitch bandits (again) so the hero inside me said:bro if you wanna get laid someday you gotta step up.

    So I tried to save her,by flying/attacking,because if I hit her with my weapon she dies,because of course there is no security system (come on really that's an important system);I successfully touched the bandits...And they didn't cared.No they were still going for her,and all the elves around for me,for some reason,and I had to breeze through to try to help and of course I got killed because they kept knockbacking me everywhere and inflicting terrible damage just because I made physical contact with them.Last thing I saw was the blue ckick inside a hole (how smart) awaiting the no-brainer bandits yelling "deth to hertetices".

    I reappeared and crushed their balls so hard they came out from the ears skulls and of course blue chick wasn't here anymore.

    That was really,really pissing me off,because all what just happened is a mass of ennemies that just ran at something and it was basically as basic as that.Couldn't do anything,couldn't even have some thrill;also they killed my would be girlfriend.


    I can't be the only one that feels like that now can I?Monsters need to be more interesting and less "rent-a-regular-random-encounter" like.They need to have a better AI when it comes to situation,we need to be able to draw their aggression by slapping them in the bonuts.Combat system needs a revamp in my opinion (sadly I doubt it can be done).NPCs need to be able to NOT being hit by our hits.It's not a 3D game it's 2D it's easier to touch than miss!Even so,Fable had such a system.And lastly we need them civilian NPCs to be able to,I don't know be on the ground or stuff if they're wounded and you can revive them with a medipack or by pressing the action button for five seconds or killing all hostiles or stuff,because I'm not losing anymore girlfriends to things that have a brain ten times less useful than mine.





    Oh and lastly.Give me the girl back;it's kinda hard to find out there.

    If you was on your home planet and someone came along, took all of your natural resources, utterly demolished your landscape, killed of all of your trees and killed off all wildlife. I don't you you'd be the nicest person around, would you?

    And besides, hostility gives the player a challenge - Maybe it's just 2sp00ky4you

    Come on I just have to mash a button.That is dumb and not entertaining (saying "u suk m8" won't advance the discussion).Or maybe you think left-clicking in rythm is hard I dunno.
    When you say "hostility gives challenge" it's a bit like if you were saying "trees give me a good reason to buy this game".Or "you can play that video game!".


    AND THESE ARE MONSTERS.These don't understand SHIT to resource gathering or stuff like that.Obviously,with what I see.

    EDIT:Neither do they understand the need for girlfriends.

    You make this whole argument about how monsters are stupid and that they're ruining your game experience because of the way they act at the current time. Yet, now you say how easy they are to kill, If they're so easy to kill why do you care if they interfere with you every so often, It's part of the game, I don't think they're going anywhere any-time soon.

    Oh, also...

    It's In Beta, give the game a chance.

    LOLOL getting wrecked in the melting pot of tiers. That place is a no man's land and unbalanced to all high hell. Next time go somewhere lower level for your fuel. In other words you deserve it

    I find the monsters in game to add more to the survival aspect of the game. I just think they should change it so that the music changes when fighting the bosses/mini bosses only.

    (BASIC COMBAT SYSTEM (constant) +COMBAT GAMEPLAY INNOVATION +SPECIAL GAMEPLAY INNOVATIONS ) x A.I. QUALITY = FUN COMBAT SYSTEM

    Which gives in our case
    (10+0+0) x 0 = 0

    Adding high values to stats in this case isn't spicing anything,it's just trying to make up.

    Yeah no.First,I have impervium gear.Second,no.Roflmao.

    Well yeah,it's a nice IDEA,but in practice it's not.Because anyway,if you die you respawn.Sandboxes like this don't feel very much like survival.And the fact that monsters are just mobs doesn't help,it doesn't push you to take into your guts and inner resources to grab your life by both hands and hold it.All it does is pushing you to enclose yourself in a dirt box and mine until you have the tier gear.

    You could always set up offensive defenses :p Put guards in places to kill mobs or put machine gun turrets (Which btw I think need a buff :p 6 damage is no where near enough, maybe 20? Perhaps an upgradeable version or something).

    I think some mobs should be able to climb walls too :3

    I really hate how monsters can attack you by walking into you. They should instead play a little swing animation at the front so you can do close combat without them auto hitting.

    I would also like to see monsters that growl or run away when you get close. At the moment monsters either don't give a damn about your presence or they go in swinging. I'd like some inbetween.

    One HUGE thing I hate about them is how ground monsters can jump and then accelerate in MID-AIR.

    Just find some fast monsters that jump high (especially on low grav planets) and you'll see exactly what I mean. If you run in the same direction of their jump, they'll actually accelerate while being airborne till they are right above you and there they adjust course (in mid air ofc) to land on top of your head.

    Even the player character doesn't have that amount of air control that monsters have, I tried it.

    Because you think they're gonna change that so late?I mean look at Terraria,made by the same.You press a button to flail your arm.And that's it.Boss battles were just flying around and aim your megashark and have lots of ammo...For those who didn't want to cheat.And that was the final game.

    Actually that was an idea.Really,when something's rotten,you may as well remove it,because it will spoil the rest.But since wildlife may be a support for much sandbox features I'd advise just removing the outright hostily.

    Though when I was showering earlier I thought on the matter,and imagined several features to make it at least better imo (because as much as I complain I'm still not a recognised gameplay specialist yet - besides not my current job),and while if I'd have to make a thread on it it would require some thoughts,I already have some ideas.For example,make behaviors much,MUCH different depending of the class of the monster.Not just different ways to move and possible attacks.True behaviors.Small carnivore?Surprise attacks you in pack,flees if getting kicked,and maybe can't jump very high,etc.Big thing?Can tear through landscape when angry,punches you into steakblivion,not very agile,could throw stuff if have hands,etc.Average four-legged?Sneaks into high-grass (I've had the idea that we could implement high-grass,and crouching in it would conceal you from things that don't have a good sense of smell),stalks,attack when you're the most vulnerable,can be frightened by fire or at least a big upercut.

    Monster apparition could also be altered according to different things we would choose.My example:snow planet.You don't see much life,maybe some fox-like critters that run and hide in holes if they see you.But then it starts snowing,and you're far from civilized pokemons,you could start encountering nasty things,or you could hear howling and be tracked by a pack of hungry babies.Or there is a small chance that the snow turns into a shitsnowstorm and there is wind that litterally pushes you back a bit,so much fog/snow that you don't see shit snow,and suddenly a pumped up UNIQUE Legendary pokemon appears and eats you.With its own behavior of course,that makes it much more dangerous than the rest,while challenging yet fun to beat,WITHOUT having just X attack value.We could imagine something like,let's say it's a big big bear,and that he's primarily try to charge at you and punch your head out.When he does that he'll tear through block and the only way to not lose your head would be to manage to dodge this and let him crash into a wall (we could say he is considered crashed when he touches the 6th block layer,and that it wasn't just a line of blocks on the ground but really a wall).He would be dizzy for a while and although you can damage him anytime he would take extra,dependable damage in that brief state,until he decides he's gonna sit on your face.He could alternate such moves,which would be specific to his features as a creature.For example if it's a bear,he could also try to jump in the air and butt you to death by sitting so hard that it'll also make a shockwave that you'll have to dodge (because a bear that's heavy),or throw environemental features at you (because a bear that's stronk) like rocks,dirt,goo,poop,trees and cows.But if it's a giant wasp with miniguns maybe he could fly and shoot lasers with its eyes,power up a minigun run that you'd need to take cover from,or grab you then impale you or something while eating the inside of your head.All these behaviors need you to react accordingly in such a way that the danger could be avoided,disarmed or countered with interactions that require skill and thinking,while beeing fun to do and fun to watch (no animations is kinda lame.I want to see the bear roar so hard that it makes my screen shake and show me all his teeth in the meantime).

    That's all examples.We can think about more,but it has to make combat something unusual,that requires your attention but that you're looking FORWARD to.I don't think all planets should have mean pokemons every five meters that require you to change to your weapon and click twice.Fighting should happen irregurlarly,maybe actually if you're looking for it only,and always feel like an unusual event.

    Well...I was simply exploring :/,just coming for fuel.And it's more and more boring,really.

    It's dangerous for my fictional girlfriends,and that's annoying :zzz:

    Yeah bro.The gameplay doesn't need to be unfair to be challenging!

    I usually avoid posting in volatile threads, but i'm going to anyway. I've seen improvement in the monster AI. Keep in mind that this is phase 1/3 of beta. Some mobs do run when you start attacking. Ultimately there is only so much you can make enemies do in 2D. Personally I like them so far.

    It also had tons of one shot deaths. Something the vocal minority of the playerbase of this game revolted against to the point that we now have the current system. Do you see the delicious irony?
