I was a little disappointed to see that you had to wait until Tier 4 to capture a monster, but I think having a monsterpedia would be enough to satiate my desire to "catch them all" at an earlier state in the game without actually catching them (Professor Oak style). Basically, the Monsterpedia would be an encyclopedia containing pictures of all the monsters you've come across and what planets you found them on. You'd be able to leave notes and name the monsters too (that maybe could show up in other people's games if they visit that same planet's coordinates). I think that maybe you should use a scanning tool of some sort to add them to the encyclopedia, instead of it being added by default. It would really make it feel more engaging that way, almost like Star Trek in a way, scanning unknown wildlife. You'd also be able to scan wildlife at a distance to determine whether they're hostile or not before approaching, instead of just jumping at it and killing it regardless (which, lets face it, a lot of us do just in case). I'd love for a lot of detail to be put into this encyclopedia. A favorites option would be nice, especially if the player intends to return to capture them later. Various tabs could show the different discovered evolutionary stages (perhaps requiring the player to scan them at each of these stages to add it), as well as their notable attacks and things. This same Monsterpedia idea could actually be applied to worlds too. It would really make me feel like an actual explorer, adding notes and scanning trees and settlements to be added to the history books. Any thoughts or additions to this idea?
Thanks! I'm glad you like it. I also think that maybe the scanner can be upgraded in time to scan faster, but maybe the final one allows you to do +1 damage to every scanned creature, which would add another benefit to scanning on top of everything. I mean I really wouldn't push for that in a big way, but it would be a nice incentive to get the best scanner. :B OR, to simplify everything, the magnifying glass tool would become the scanner and combine both features at the same time. Ooh... I actually like that idea a lot. This idea, in combination with a way to manually chart maps somehow, would truly make the player feel like an explorer.
I'm pretty sure the devs said they definitely wanted to include this (perhaps in much earlier pre-beta posts when they were working on the random monster generator ages ago). Certainly doesn't mean that it will be in the game, but they seemed pretty adamant about it when it was said. PS: When I say 'they' I'm pretty sure I mean Tiy.
I feel like I remember hearing something similar to this idea a while back, but I wasn't able to find where it was said. Even so, I'd love for the encyclopedia's content to be something you have to manually scan. A nice compromise, maybe, could be that it transfers across characters... but I'm not even sure if that's possible or not with the way the game's currently built. :B
It certainly doesn't hurt to reiterate an idea. It might refresh the ambition in the developers when they see their customers wanting an idea. If it's an idea that has fallen through the cracks then maybe posts like this will revitalize it, who knows?
I know that the thread is old, and that I might be necroing it, but I think that this should be in the game. Would it also include minibosses? Would the Monsterpedia also list the creatures´ abilities?
Well, it should have: Looks of the creature. Attack Damage. Health. Defence. Abilities. If they are in a pack OR themselves. Description A roleplaying thing
