Sven (one of the other developers for Starbound) recently made a holiday update on his website. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/bs5vqak

He's working on the monster sounds and gave us a little sample of what's to come!

I like a lot the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, they sould like gaint insects screaming.

I know that the guy making sounds for X-Com used (modified) monkey sounds for sectoids ('grey' type of alien) and other animal sounds, but using your own voice chords? Impressive!

  7. Thanks for sharing this. :) It will very likely get featured in next Vector Squared's issue. ^^

The last one sounds like a horse with a serious sour throat.

Yeah. You can tell that some of them were made by human vocal cords. Very nicely done though. They just need a bit of tweaking with some filters, just to get out that little bit of 'human' sound that they have and they'll sound amazing. I am very impressed at what he managed to do and I'm really looking forward to hearing more.

    Very nice. :)
They sound mostly like insect robot hybrids to me.

Good lord, hearing these, deep in a cave, forgot your torch, no way out, atmospheric cave sounds in the background... Gosh, Amnesia is more forgiving :p

Nice hearing some monster sounds since the gameplay videos so far are all mostly mute.

First and fourth are all right, the second and third sound kind of... "Human" or fake even.

They remind me of my first real spelunking adventure in Minecraft when I fell down a shaft and I ran out of torches.

I didn't know much about the game at that time, and every little sound seemed threatening.

  16. Let's hope there's no instant underground teleport ability to ruin that fantastic mood. :alien:

Agreed! I enjoy spelunking much more when I have to get myself out of the messes I create.

Pretty darn good considering he used his own voice.
There are a great many plugins used to mangle sound however, so I hope he gets to use some before the game is released.

Some of the sounds remind me alot of the sound the silence creatures from Doctor Who make.

Reminds me of cries from the pokemon games.
