Quite honestly, since there's infinite number of planets, everything I do in Starbound is going to be planet sized. I'm going to find one planet that's got some really cool monster with neat drops, then I'm going to turn THE ENTIRE PLANET into a monster death trap. Giant lava pits, giant spike traps, giant butchering grounds, giant arenas (aka butchering grounds with spectators), giant acid oceans... yeah, the monsters will have no chance.

So I can be a farmer and grow monsters? sounds nice

  3. I don't care much about monster ranching but I'd like to make a zoo.

Or they can go the way of the metroid, Literally create a new type depending on every environment they are on. (Seriously look up metroid types, there are tons depending on the environment they are kept in!)

I can't wait to hoard all the awesome looking creatures then create a huge stampede.

Maybe there could be an item that increase spawn rate, like a water candle in Terraria :)

If there are such items, I'd expect to be some sort of nest, for example. Or, like in dungeons, that big dungeon protecting item that stops you from "griefing" it.

I think the major doubt here may be regarding passive mobs vs. agressive mobs.

I'd say that passive mobs farming will probably be in game (such as farming of pigs for bacon and cows for milk).

Regarding agressive mobs, farming will probably not be as effective as in minecraft, but depending on the spawning and aggro conditions, it may become a viable option, depending, of course, on the kind of item they drop. Anyway, I hope this isn't all that much attractive to a point where going out, guns blazing, hunting for angry creatures is not worth it. Still, if it becomes a viable option, I'll sure make some farms just for the sake of it (and some periods of laziness).

What I believe will be major points are:
    - Spawning criteria. If it works like terraria (spawn off-screen), I'll sure hate it. The criteria is simply your graphic card ability to give you a better or worse resolution. I'd prefer a min-max distance criteria, as general rule, although other ways can be employed, like the existence of specific spawning items.
    - Killing methods. If stuff like lava pumps, spikes, auto turrets, etc are added, they'll greatly influence how good or bad farms will work.
    - Maximum number of mobs.

Here is the meter! The Devs currently haven't implemented them... SO, here is the livestock voting spot! Check it out! If you think it should be in the game vote it up the ranks :) http://playstarbound.com/suggestions/?p=view&id=7470

On every planet are just 2 or 3 kinds of landmonsters and 2 for night and a few air ones. Si i think there have to be some very special ones so the farm is worth the work:unsure:

Monster farms sound interesting. A good way to farm money/items and drops or whatever. Lots of games have their own little version of monster farms- I don't see why Starbound would not.

would mob breeding be a legit method maybe:confused:

That might also be interesting, monster breeding. There's always a chance for these sorts of things post release- Chucklefish has repeatedly stated that this game will continue to be updated long after release.
