this is awesome but i think small sized monsters should have knock back on them only when hit by a two handed sword just for fun.

This is great: it will make the entire combat in Starbound a lot more interesting and unique! ;)

Looking forward to the combat changes!

As mentioned by HellsBells dodging inside a monsters is my only concern. That is, if it is possible for the player to just stay inside the monster to avoid damage. Another alternative or addition when the player is standing "inside" the monster is a monster attack that enables it to damage players it is touching and jump back, knock back the player, or does both knocking the player back and jumping back. A tell that this attack is coming may or may not be needed.

Personally I'd like to see a mix of monsters that still have touch damage and attacks that prevent the player from standing inside them.

I think the shield parry should stun the monster instead of a regular block, the regular block should bounce the monster's attack off the shield and create a small attack of opportunity. Also will no knockback effect flyers as well? Because if it did that would make it a little easier to take out flyers which would be nice.

    Sounds truly amazing.

By the way, does this mean that now you'll be able to recharge energy while shield is up?

Please add stats to shields as well. I know that some shields are better than others but I want to be able to see the stats because all the shields say right now is "This item needs to have a description set" so Is my Deathblocker better than my Hitstopper? I don't know because all I see is the name.

That aside YES! This update is going to be very nice.

Why not to call shield "health" a stamina? That would make more sense.

Absolutely love these changes. They have a bit of a Monster Hunter feel to them, which is never ever a bad thing.

If it's implemented right it will be great! Though I can foresee some challenges from the get go. For example, will 'hills' essentially ruin this? I like the idea of 2h sword parrying though. Big fan. Also hope this means shields will get some stats!

Yes, this can be a problem. So you can just ignore and run inside every monster in the game because they are not blocking your way. Or worse, if the player stay inside the monster will start spinning trying to reach him without success. Then the player just need to stay on this "blind" spot to kill it without taking damage (especially without knock back).

I liked your solution to turn on the touch damage if the enemy is attacking and make the monster jumping back or something like that if the player is inside.

Maybe if the monsters have directional melee like players does it should not be a problem.

if it's done right this will be awesome, just suggestion, try to make the combat flow in and out of gameplay seamlessly, i don't know how it could be done or if anything will need to be done to achieve that, but it could get annoying if you're trying to build a huge castle and you can barely get any work done because of the amount of time that this is going to put into fights

P.S. sorry that my punctuation is horrible i've been trying to work on it

interesting, good with one monster but with lots.
ok for monsters, it will be the same for the NPC (guard) and others players in pvp ?
if we not knock back when we hit, we must use a shield and be vulnerable at back, bad in lots of monsters, same with 2 hand weapon if you block with one monster, at back it will hurts, (kick him in balls ! Damn it is a glitch...)
or if one grab you an another shoot you with gun ?
if flying monsters fall down 10 sec, flying monsters become useless.(down with guns or shield (if attack us), 10 s go to, and destroy with hammer (easy))
what about monster with guns, fire ball, they will stunt by shield ?
you should add weapon effect too, hammer (stunt), knife (bleed) ,axe (slow),...
nerf guns knock back too ? it will be a big problem for machine guns.
if monsters no hit you when you touch it but when attack hit, it will be interesting, if not unplayable.

for information, what happened to the project of energy shield, or other upgrade we can use and obtained by analyzing creatures (or parts) in a lab ? (if you still insist on doing this can be that give capacity creature we can got after would be a good idea)

Love all the ideas!!! I hope most of all that there is a good way to take out the touch attack. Unless it is a special ability. Monster on fire should hurt to touch. lol Curious though... Would you be able to dodge attacks by moving toward the monster? Is that desirable?
