Hi people, There's a similar thread around here which people discussed transportation but the most wanted means are mounts and stuff like that. I was thinking at something else. How about a monorail system. Something like mine carts in MC, but it would allow more people in it. A monorail system that could be built underground, on surface, or even in air, at high altitudes. This could be used in a lot of different and useful ways such as quick transportation, safe travelling from your base to your mining operations across dangerous lands. I'm not a great artist and I'm also lazy but I did manage to put together a kind of wireframes. So here they are: First of all this is a station, or a checkpoint, where trains are automatically stopped. The train slows down more and more as it approaches a station. A pop-up dialog which asks for input from the player if the train should stop or not would be also useful. The station could be built the way you want it, but a special part of the rail would be needed, obviously. Rails would need some supporting pillars, so it won't look like it's just floating around. Also, you can see some yellow squares, those are just some lights. As I said, it could be used in a lot of ways, but the main purpose would be to actually travel quick and safe across points of interest. Below is a wireframe which illustrates an instance where you travel across a lake of lava and a shooting enemy. I didn't mention that the train would have limited HP, but still hard to destroy so the player would have a challenge at rebuilding it. Who knows, maybe even the rails could be destructable. Maybe if enemies could destroy the pillars, portions of the monorail could break and give you a little challenge to re-build. Another thing I didn't mention is that the train could hold a number of 4 or 5 players simultaneously. So if there were more players into the train, it could break or just not work. The players could be able to freely move inside the train or even stay on top of the train, which has a ceiling meant for protection. Just an idea. While I don't really hope to see this inside the game because it would need a lot of work, I'd really like to use something like this. It would add a little challenge to the game, and it would make it 0.01% more awesome As for the rails and pillars, they would be passable objects, the train being the only impassable part. So players or NPC could fallf rom the top on your train and atempt to destroy it. This could be a high risk since you wouldn't be able to shoot through ceiling, jump off the train or stop it. So if you have a long run between two checkpoints, an NPC on top of your train could destroy it without you being able to do anything about it. This could add a little risk and challenge. Regarding crafting, I'm not really sure but you would need a lot of iron for the rails and the train itself. The pillars could be built off from anything, from wood to rock and steel, but the most durable being the steel. Also this could mean that after a several number of uses, the pillars could get damaged and you would need to repair/rebuild them in order to keep the monorail system "alive". This is just a suggestion which I think it could server a lot of purposes in the game, but again as I said, it's hard to get it implemented so even if a lot of people like this suggestion, I don't really hope that it will end up in the game. But I do hope this will give a little more ideas to the devs. Thank you and please do give feedback or just leave your opinions, but without any non-sense!

Uh. Didn't we literally JUST get the railmod ingame? If a monorail was added, it'd be completely useless right from the start, since we can just jump on our rails without any giant steel cage.
Even if they serve a similar purpose (Skyrail is high-speed individual transport, monorail is medium-speed group transport that could probably be built on) they do it in different ways. I'm sure the building community would enjoy these monorails, at least.
Skyrail is a high-speed individual transport. Nothing is stopping us from having a group go on one together, and arrive at the destination just as fast. Built on isn't as useful as you think, we don't need that much, most players I know, including myself, only fill their inventory because of the hundred different colours of dirt that we can throw away.
It could just be a platform that is placeable on skyrails and when you press E on the left side, it goes left, and E on the right side it goes right. It could be maybe 6 blocks long or something, and you can place blocks on it, but you can't edit/access them while it is moving.
