Hello there! Ah yes, the starter home. It's the phase where you halt progression to ensure your foothold in the galaxy. You go to a place far from screenshot range, tear the hell out of it, and then never go back so that you can set up your own slice of paradise. I've seen a lot of player's starting homes and they almost always convey coziness. So I figured I would post mine and request a few from other players to give me ideas. The term "Starter Home" means that it was built using only materials found on your first world! So if you have a starter home or feedback, please comment. I'm trying to re-connect with the community. (Also please move this if it's in the wrong section)
I had to copy/pasta the link to see it: http://s2.postimg.org/hsrk7vtl4/modest_home_night.jpg But that's a very compact, efficient design you have there. :gjob: Mine are generally just caves below the spawn with a 2 width hole and maybe an overhang to keep the monsters out.
can't wait for the first person to post a really elaborate house and say "oh nothing, just something I threw together. #nofilter #justwokeup"
That's a fair rule for it. Yeah let's go with that![DOUBLEPOST=1426110300][/DOUBLEPOST] Strange, it appears for me! And thanks! I usually just skip the home phase altogether, but my spawn looked pretty cool so I just went with it.
Looking sweet. I didn't know it was possible to merge Medieval, Modern and Magical all in one, but that's a great example. And yeah, I often find myself playing Starbound just to build.
Once again after a universe wipe my character created a starter home. Only a single pass around the lush planet was what got all the materials here. I didn't have enough copper for a cooking table yet. Otherwise it's got the necessities: farming space, crafting, storage, side by side tree plantation, small enough passages that monsters don't spawn in my house or basement.
I almost never build on the starting planet. I built this when I was playing with a friend because he's a real sucker for the "minecraft meta" (build house then dig) I knew better and traveled to a different planet then came back and "improved" the house with some of the stuff I found.
I always build on the starting planet. I used to have multiple characters and there was a point in development where every character started on the same planet. So I'd build a base on the starting planet, stick a teleporter in it, and all of my characters would use it. Usually it's made out of wood and cobblestone bricks. However, I've never thought about trying to make something elaborate using only resources from the starting planet. So: challenge accepted. I've been playing primarily on Stable; I'm making a new character in a new universe on Unstable and see what I can build using local resources. Confession: I started doing just that before posting anything on this thread and promptly took over the local cave next to spawn. Here's what I have so far.
I'll see if I can find a picture of one of my old starter homes. I had some good ones back in the Koala builds because there were a few dungeons on my home planet. In my opinion, the best starter homes are the ones filled with random junk that was either cheap enough to buy or looted from somewhere.
