Modding Discussion Mod Library

It is fantastic to see just how many mods have been created for Starbound, despite it being only in Stage 1 of beta. I am confident the mods we have seen so far are only a sample of things to come as the game moves further towards official release. That said, the forums can only do so much with keep mods organized and as of this posting, there are already 6 pages of mods to sort through. That can be a bit daunting for anyone! Therefore, I am going to attempt to create a mod library posting here which provides a list of mods as well as links to their individual threads. The goal, of course, is to enable those interested in mods to be able to read a single thread as opposed to sifting through pages and pages of threads.

Disclaimer: I have come up with 16 categories that I think all the current mods will fit in to. I will grant that in some cases a mod may be shoehorned into a category, however, I intend no disrespect or slight to the mod. If your mod ends up in a category you feel is inappropriate, please let me know and I will be happy to reconsider.

Additionally, I have not created any of these mods nor do I provide support for them in any way. Support questions should be posted in the individual mod's thread.

If you would like your mod added or removed from this list, please send me a private message and I will do so as rapidly as possible!

I actually really like this idea. The thing that might be annoying is that Starbound is going to get a lot of updates and mods will be out of date. Mods update over time again, etc. At that stage it might be smart stating what version a certain mod is up to date for, and update as mods update as well. Then mod developers can simply post here if they updated their mod to be compatible.

I had considered putting version numbers at first, however, many mods don't include version numbers and compatibility information and with the rate at which Starbound will be getting updates, I suspect it'll be awhile before mods remain stable for appreciable lengths of time. I do plan on adding that type of info in the future for sure.

I expect that as time rolls on we'll see one of the mod managers become the "linguia franca" so to speak. For now, figured I would list them all so no one felt slighted.

5 mod managers might seem excessive for Stage 3 of beta or final release, but as Starbound goes through the early stages of beta and adds features, tweaks features, etc, I think a variety of options is better. They'll thin themselves out as people decide for themselves which they like best, anyway.

I agree on the mod managers issue, and as of yet none of the loaders/managers have the ability to merge/edit .config files, leaving them mostly useless to developers/users who are looking for mod inter-compatibility. (Also thanks for listing my mod!)

I'll keep all my mods up to date. Having them all in separate files helps.

The thing is, I've seen so many mods that are editing actual game files while they could do it so much cleaner by having everything standalone. If all mod developers actually did it the way I was just describing, basically boiling down to just a single folder in the Assets folder, it's really only the player.config that needs changing. It won't solve the problem, but it'll make it so much easier to deal with it.

Your mod was added as part of the original batch. It is currently in the item mods category.

As long as Chucklefish doesn't change the Starbound structure, mods will never need to be updated if a new Starbound version is released. We would only update our mods to fix/add content.

That's the thing, I'm expecting them to do this exact thing. A good example is the rebalance coming up in the next patch. While most stuff will probably (and hopefully) stay intact, all weapons and armors released will be incompatible. Seeing as we're in the first beta stage, I'm guessing the chance is there it'll happen more than just this once.

Well. It all started when I wanted to make a default mod structure, a guy told me about the config file, I just edited it. But yeah I was thinking of grouping every modloader creator and do just one for the good of all of us.

About the merge player.cfg file: well if you make Starbound load 3 different assets folders and in each one you have a different player.cfg, Starbound will merge them in one.

Not actually, as long as they don't change the values a weapon needs to have, no mods will be broken.
