Oh I was more using that as an example of a game mechanic that's changed recently. But yeah it does, still easily countered with a layer cake sort of formation, but it's just another strategy to get around the ability.

Hmm. Tiy could program a modifier that detects when the boss is active and disable crafting. And if he did that and still wanted some strategy he coould make it where you obtain x amount of boss crafting blocks that you can use only that block during battles and you only get like 20 blocks and that's it so you have a short term barrier that you have to be strategic with .

Before the patch, I used a floor of cobblestone bricks and the UFO would slowly whittle away, almost not worth making them that strength. Now, it just completely destroys them instantly if it slams correctly. I think it should be somewhere in the middle for appropriate bosses and only specific types of regular monsters.

I'm going to want to build a lot less if mobs can just destroy what I make.

What if they had to aggro you first and only destroy things if you ignored them for a while?

I find it a shame that one of the most prominent features (destructible terrain) of the game is not really all that well utilized. I understand that people don't want their buildings to horribly burn down and die by marauding monsters, but I feel that completely rejecting a potentially great feature is not quite the right way to go.

Couldn't there be more ways to protect your structures, such as turrets and force fields? Couldn't there be different types of planets where the other is safe from block breaking and the other is not? Couldn't there be ways to protect a claimed area, or even an entire planet?

This would be cool. It'd give me more reason to make my house out of stronger material than use what ever just looks nice. Then again, choosing what looks nice would be more of what the casual builders of Starbound looks for. Sooo maybe that ability should only be enabled for players who choose a difficult setting.

SPEAK FOR YOURSELF! I'd actually look forward to that. I find the idea of defending your home from creatures of the night a thrilling experience.

In minecrap I'd just build a double retaining wall chalked full of gravel to ward of creepers...it worked pretty well. I don't see what the big objection to strategic design would be.

I think modding in invulnerable blocks would be easier than modding in the ability to have monsters break them at variable levels. That makes sense, right?

The UFO does smash dirt faster than hitech or concrete blocks already.

  13. This game is about combat, building, and exploration. What's funny -- is that you, who focuses on combat -- see's blocking a mob as "cheesing" even though using blocks is a feature/mechanic of the game as a whole.

A builder sees blocking a mob, as a decently clever use of pre-existing mechanics.

To some extent I agree we shouldn't be able to cheese Bosses. But building is a way to protects us from everyday mobs.

Allowing all mobs to have block destroying capabilities is a mistake, and extremely detrimental to the gameplay value from a builder's perspective of the game.

Well I thought that too. Then the last encounter I had with him instantly demolished my cobblestone bricks as if they were the weakest kind of block. There wasn't even a breaking animation - just blocks plopping on the ground.

I don't think all mobs should be able to, and I think that the ones that do shouldn't all be able to in the same way. However, I do think that it should apply more than to the couple of times a boss happens to pounce.

  15. No, because then on every world you will have to be concerned with that particular mob not just attacking you, but your buildings AND NPC's as well. It is detrimental to an entire player base, who is not a minority, that this game actually appeals to.

People are already looking for a reason to even have a home base outside of storage -- let's not attack the home base before it even has reason to exist

The game is a little too imbalanced between combat, exploration, and building as is. There's been a lot of focus on combat so far, and not much attention to the other two features of the game. Block breaking puts even more focus on combat at the expense of builders. Though I don't know it, there must be a solution to "cheesing" mobs, that doesn't come at the cost of others' gameplay experience.

boss have to be able to do one of two things. either break blocks or move through them all together. if they cant do either of these the bosses will remain pointless and have no real threat to anyone fighting them. in terraria the bosses could move through blocks for this very reason if they couldnt and were like normal mobs they would more or less just be a waste of time. i would rather see them break blocks since in this game there endless planets to explore. and for building on planets thats a problem all in it self. not that i summoned any boss on my home planet assuming they would destroy it anyways. destroying blocks should only apply to bosses and super mobs

I really hate this idea to be honest, (no offense OP) I want to build my house/base with the best looking building materials, I don't want to lose it to a rogue npc that decided to go on a rampage on a random day because it got bored for no reason. :( The UFO boss.. Ok... Fine... But I don't want animal mobs having that ability... Only minibosses at minimum should have that ability. Or as some people said, only destroy dirt blocks. I do not want to lose a titanium house to an alien bird that spits blood. I like to build.
I find it self rewarding to build my own things.

I admitted every mob would be a bad idea. Elite types (I guess everyone is calling them mini bosses) and sector bosses shouldn't be able to be cheesed. Regular mobs? Eff em.

If you honestly think being able to make a bunker out of crap materials and shoot a boss 400 times with a terrible bow and arrow while taking zero damage is fun, I would never want to play a game with you. There will be people who want to focus on building, and that's fine, but building is not a style of combat, and combat at points is 100% necessary in this game.

I imagine the same concept goes "cheesing" regular mobs. But in any case, THIS!
