Mobs need to be able to destroy player made bunkers

I've seen so many videos where people just cheese harder mobs and boss battles. What's the point in these fights if we can just make an impenetrable fortress out of snow?

UFO now can destroy blocks reliably and you cant attack through solid walls now. The only real way to cheese it is to make a small opening to shoot through. Even then, to do that for the entire fight would take ages since even bows now have an energy cost

Bows always had an energy cost, they just take too much energy now

Bosses can be beaten with ease by using wooden platforms. Currently, the bosses are really terrible, for many reasons. Making monsters break blocks won't solve the root problems, and all it will accomplish is pissing off people who build on planets (and the last thing the game needs is more incentive to avoid building on planets)

Yeah, I don't think bosses should be able to break blocks. Maybe be able to jump over them, or if the player is incased in it, phase through it and attack, but never breaking blocks.

You are assuming you have to summon this boss near something you've built.... I think bosses and even mobs breaking blocks would be a fun mechanic and would make the combat more interesting. If you're worried about mobs breaking your stuff that would make a great use for the guard spawners

Other than the guards that spawn can't fight their way out of a wet paper bag, at least not in Beta Sector from my experience. I'm unsure how I feel about mobs destroying blocks to get to you, I mean we'll figure some way around the mechanic anyhow, some conniving LOS trick or some such. But I do like the level of threat it creates, maybe as a special ability on some mobs like breathing fire, or proton torpedoes.

I mentioned it before but some mobs should have the ability to tunnel through dirt (but only dirt/sand.). Also they shouldn't break ore blocks.

It would make mining much more interesting.

It's just to easy to cheese. Maybe all mobs shouldn't be able to, just the elites (the ones who look like they're on fire) and bosses? I watched a guy beat up the robot by making a bunker and shooting him with arrows for what seemed like days. That shouldn't be a valid strategy.

I've always thought that if pathing fails, enemies should run a screen or two away. You're sniper roost wont help much when he heads over a mountain. If you want to bunker hop, go ahead, that's a lot more effort than actually fighting them.

I like the suggestion that the bosses could phase through the blocks. I think otherwise this could turn into an arms race where the devs build ever harder bosses and the players build every more complicated arenas, and the players who don't want to prep a g-darn to-scale replica of the iron islands to take care of a boss will just suffer.

I also, however, hope that doesn't lead to them making the bosses easier as a balance. That would be a shame.

Certain mobs running away would be an interesting mechanic but if they all did it, I think that would make them seem..... too passive. I would really like to see a portion of mobs actually be a threat to you when you are "bunkered" in dirt or when you wall them in

Oh, I agree. Large mobs (like bosses) should definitely be able to break blocks. But anything that can't break blocks and can't reach it's attacker shouldn't just sit there and let itself die.

You know what would keep people from making bunkers? An enrage mechanic.

Like, if a boss(Just bosses!) can't reach their target within something like 15 seconds and can recognize a wall is in the way, then they do an attack that breaks blocks and probably smacks the person behind them pretty hard too. Like, if the robot boss did a lunging strike after being hung on the ground so long that both has extra range/damage and breaks through 1-3 thick block walls, but only did it after being stuck against a wall for a while.

The devs plan on modifying the aliens in the near future.

Maybe that'll make a difference. :mwahaha:

I think both mobs and bosses should be able to damage blocks. What I DON'T approve of is how they changed it so the UFO could instantly break blocks of great hardness like they were nothing. I want a small advantage for having built a base out of tough blocks. Same with monsters. Repeated attacks, if it's a monster that is strong enough, should eventually be able to break them, but not instantly just because "I'm a boss and I ruin your fun."

Bosses can have attacks which by-pass walls. but some kind of lead-up so you can still avoid it if you are careful.
I like the enrage idea, slow/infrequent attack that blows up walls. It mainly means you have ablative walls on your bunker, but can make them more threatening.

Also make boss normal attacks able to break soft blocks. I was kinda saddened when the dragon couldn't break my sand bunker, even though the blocks looked like they were about to break.

Edit: Also need mobs which can ignore blocks like some of the ones from Terraria. Worms burrowing seems cool and adds an element of danger to some planets.

Of course you then have blocks which can't be burrowed through so your titanium block base is safer than the sandcastle someone else built ;-)
