So we have already discussed mining on volcanic worlds recently, which was labeled difficult for reasons. What are you guys' opinions and tips on mining on Moderate Ocean worlds? I find it difficult in its own way because the islands that float on the surface do not touch the ocean floor and no caves exist to lead further into the planet. I have also discovered bone block layers further in and they actually act like fine sand and gravel blocks, adding to the difficulty of digging.

I step off the island, float to the seabed, and dig straight down. Having water drain into the hole and subsequent caverns means I can swim out afterwards.

You can also place those glowy ocean plants down along your way like torches to light your way back out. They are very convenient for doing anything underwater :D

...why do you need a cave? It's not like the seabed layer is hard rock or anything.

I usually just float straight to the bottom, then build a tower all the way up to the surface. I use that tower as my Grappling Pole to get up/down as quickly as I can from the surface to the floor. Then from the ocean floor, I create a small "Base of Mining Operations" which is usually just an air-lock + a few crates for stuff I don't want to take off-planet,

If I'm actually going to mine on an ocean planet (my plan involves more resorts and undersea labs), just remember to fill both the fore- and background blocks. Dig the foreground blocks out of the middle of your room and it should remain water-free. From there you can open a space big enough to walk into, reseal it, drain the liquid, and you're good to go.

Consider Frigid Ocean worlds as they generate extremely similar to moderate ocean worlds, but trade slush and ice for kelp and palm trees

interesting, i have never been on a frozen planet with large oceans.
