Minimum specs to realistically run starbound

I'm curious about other people's results on running this game on lower end machines.

How is the frame rate? Is it playable?

I'll report back on my findings once I've tried the game on my seven year old iMac. (Core 2 duo)

    Edit:

So I tried the game out on my old iMac 1.8 GHz Core 2 duo. Initially, it was really slow and unplayable, but after lowering the resolution, I was able to play smoothly.

It's good enough so that I can buy a copy for my son and we can try out multiplayer.

My laptop can't play it. It's really bad. The game will freeze for about 10 minutes (I assume loading it) and then it will freeze constantly whenever I teleport down. Then, when I am at the planet, I get a solid 5-6 fps. It's just unplayable.

My laptop isn't awful but it certainly should be able to play this. I got a intel core duo thingie that does 2.00 GHZ or whatever moblobins you call it. Also some kinda graphics card. SAYS HERE ITS A GEFORCE 9600M GS.

Like I said, I know its not that great, but it can play World of Warcraft on low settings, Bioshock 1 and 2, Portal, and Terraria and a bunch of other stuff.

Luckily, I have my beefy desktop for it(plays it perfectly, no problems at all). I just really don't like playing keyboard and mouse games on it though.

Damn, my laptop has pretty much the same spec as yours.. i guess I shouldnt even bother buying the game, althought i can play terraria well. Hopefully it's just optimization issues. Thanks for the post though.

no problem. Maybe just wait a while before you buy it. I have to assume it will get better optimized as time goes on.

Yes my computer is not so good.I have been able to play it some what decently by lowering the resolution to the lowest, I still sometimes crash on space travel and alot of sand falling. I am guessing since we are in beta that by stage 3 it should run fine. Also the pixel cost is maddening especially with death taking away pixels so all the farming I did was undone by my own greed lol.

that reminds me, my girlfriend got a new laptop just about a month ago. It's got an integrated graphics card but a slightly faster CPU (I think 2.3 or 2.4 GHZ) and it has the advantage of being almost brand new. I'm gonna try Starbound out on that and see how it does. If she can't play it with me, I'll be pretty sad. Both our laptops have 4 GB of ram as well btw.

I'll post what happens when I can.

If you're freezing up and the framerate is slow, make sure you're running the game as an admin. It sped up things for me quite a bit.

Hopefully there's some code optimizations in the works before the next stage of beta.

    Indeed hopefully better then minecraft.

I usually get a smooth framerate on my crappy 2012 laptop with only 6 gigs ram and intergrated graphics card and windows 7..

Though I'm noticing a loss of framerate as I play for longer periods of time.. Could be memory leaks but the game needs tons of optimization so i suggest waiting till the proginater stage is done unless you are okay with tons of buggy gameplay and missing tons of features

windows 7 is better then vista lol

I tried that. I also lowered the res as much as I could. I did notice a bit more fps, but its still pretty much unplayable for me. Oh yeah, and my laptop is using windows Vista too, so there's that

Vista still has the memory governor even at the highest level of user priority. You might have to wait until they iron out the code optimizations to get any kind of decent framerate.

Yeah, I'm ok with waiting since I got my desktop. Could be vista that is killing me if what you say is true. I'll find out when I switch to my woman's laptop as she's got Windows 8 on there. I'll give it a shot, and it might run better.
