Recent devblogs ( http://playstarbound.com/september-30th-make-it-work/ ) have talked about adding in new items for all the various biomes. You mentioned the "Sabertooth Spear", for instance, that's found in Tar biomes and lobs balls of tar at the enemies. It seems like you guys are creating a ton of special biome loot like this. This is really cool, but it needs to be craftable. At least some of it. It's really cool when you find new materials like slime or tar or bones, but then to find out there's nothing functionally different you can make with it, just the new furniture? The furniture is really cool, don't get me wrong, but gameplay-wise it's just more of the same. The weapons do new things, and it would be awesome to mine a bunch of tar and maybe a few other items, and see that you can build some awesome new piece of gear with totally new properties. Finding new resources and running to see what new craftables that may have unlocked can be one of the most exciting parts of this sort of game, but you need to actually have the variety to make that work. I hope you guys will work on this!
Rare and uncommon items aren't and shouldn't be craftable. That's usually how those sorts of items tend to be.
Actually, they are. A LOT of them. Steel bow, robotic crafting table, frozenfire bow, all the racial tiered weapons...so on and so forth...
Those aren't rare and uncommon. They're general items, as you can find them through crafting. Items like the ones mentioned above are drops. You FIND these ones. And given that they're not randomized items, that would make them rare. It would be like if tech could just be created through a crafting table.

Then they most likely list them as such due to the fact they don't tend to spawn during planet generation. But it doesn't change the fact that from a player standpoint, they're common items as you can craft them.
