Miniaturizing your character

    Greetings,

I was wondering if, perhaps, some Techs could allow us to "miniaturize" our character, that is to say to shrink their size. Aside from the fun fact of playing a "mini-me" version of yourself, you could use this new mecanic in Starbound dungeons, where you character would need to be miniaturised in order to enter some passages which would be too small for you to enter otherwise, allowing you to bypass a closed (and unbreakable) door for example.

Of course, I understand that this new mecanic could cause some hitbox problems, and that it could be a problem were it to be abused in PvP. That's why I think that the player shouldn't be able to use his weapons while miniaturized.

The idea originated from the fact that I'm a Metroid fan, and I always loved the morphball. To pick a more recent example, Guacamelee! allows the player character to turn into a chicken (cock-a-doodle-do!), which serves the same goal as in Metroid, that is to say to enter small passages (also, it's hilarious).

And if I want to recreate the planet Zebes once I can play Starbound, I really would need the possibility to morphball or something like that*laugh*

Thank you for reading my suggestion.

    Sincerely yours,

    Nohar

Neat! I see it as an applicable toggle-Tech.

Could introduce quite some secret-room style Dungeons. I think I could use this when I decide to play Hide-and-Seek too.

I think players should be able to use tools, though. If there is a fine, minute detail you would like to change within your home that is not in reach, you could morph and just minimize deconstruction of your house.

This has so many promising possibilities.

Maybe, along the lines of not using weapons and possibly using tools... the limitation can be range... (There ought to be a 'thinking' smiley)

What if, you can only use melee weapons for, say 50% of the usual damage.
(given the fact that something the size of a pea is swinging around Excalibur :viking: )
And you can build and use tools, but only within, say, 1/3 of your usual range.
(or at least 1/3 of the range of that Matter Manipulator, since that's the only tool we've seen? Is it? D: It's the only tool I've seen.)

Whoa. I like this. This would certainly take dungeons to the next level. I think that instead of having weapons, one should have an increased speed while miniaturized, so you can outrun your enemies (so one wouldn't have to worry about weapon issues). After all, the whole point of shrinking is to get through the door, right?

(Slightly) increased speed could be a good idea indeed (since other Techs will probably allow us to increase our movement speed, it doesn't seem it could be a problem). I'm not sure about the possibility of using weapons, though. I really don't want such feature to be abused in any way in PvP.

Also, since miniaturizing all character sprites could be a long process which could take some time to create for the devs (unless they create generic sprites for shrinked characters), I was thinking of something more simple instead. Morphing into smaller creatures seems to be the best solution (Guacamelee! influence spotted).

Like the adorable penguin we see on the pre-order page. [IMG]

    I dig it.
It sounds like a fun thing to do while messing around with friends, but it could also make tunneling faster as you have less blocks to remove in order to get somewhere.

Maybe post-release? It seems like an entire unnecessary mechanic that people would have to worry about when navigating a dungeon, so I don't think it would be worth all of the trouble even if it was cool at first.

Yeah, i agree. This will most likely be apart of a Post-release update item.
