Minecraft world painter?

So I was perusing the files/folders of StarBound on my computer and found that the files in the "universe" folder are compatible with the "world Painter" tool/program for minecraft. The first time I found this, I opened it in world painter and it made a grassland with pools of water here and there, but the second time I tried it, world painter crashed. I didn't take screen shots the first time so that kind of sucks, but here's the files in the "universe" folder.

My next thought was "what if I took a world from minecraft and put in Starbound." I can't think of a way to do this, but if anyone else can that'd be interesting. Any thoughts?

Most likely the WorldPainter application saves files with the same "WORLD" file extension. That does not mean it is compatible. All it means is that they use the same file extension. Likewise, if you were to rename the file extension to "CAKE", and downloaded "CakePainter 2014", it would recognize the file, but it wouldn't work as such.

EDiT: As a note, "CakePainter 2014" is a non-existing piece of software, as of right now. Give it five minutes, though....

 

I had definitely opened a world in World Painter and it made a grassland so... I don't know man.

 

Most likely WorldPainter didn't care that the file had additional data already written (it's surely not programmed by someone that has much experience, of course).

Just think about it, for a minute: MineCraft is a 3D game, with an entirely different dev team, code base, and block set compared to StarBound.

Try this as a test: Make a new txt file, and copy the entire contents of this page into it. From there, save it, and then rename it to a WORLD file. Then open it with WorldPainter. You'll surely be able to do similar things as such.

 

Protip: The forum's image module is borked beyond repair right now. Always use a third party site like imageshack or such to upload images to threads.

 

If what OP says is true, maybe we can do some datamoshing with it

 

Looks like a form of Glitch art so that could work, except for the whole it not working part.
