there is something to be said on how terrible minecraft is when i prefer starbound when it isn't even out yet. let's be honest the only redeeming value in minecraft is the building aspect the combat is brain dead spam, multiplayer is filled with nothing but uptight entitled children who think that they are pro (LOL), and the game is rendered marginally entertaining through the copious use of mods that often or not make the already poorly optimized game run even slower, so all in all at least chucklefish is trying hard to deliver us a well built and entertaining game. and if you don't like my opinion than fine its just that. an opinion, and before you say anything i have played a good deal of minecraft as i bought it well within its alpha period so yeah and yeah i don't play it anymore.

This will probably apply to both games.

Sooo, comparing a 2D building survival RPG, with a 3D Building survival....

While we're at it... Pacman or Starcraft?

I think I'd still prefer minecraft for the 'lego style' 3d building, however survival is crap on minecraft and painfully boring.

i dont understand how someone can claim to HATE minecraft yet like this game. Sure, i can understand having a preference, but if you've bought into the SB beta, chances are games like Minecraft and Terraria are the kind of games you would like.

Minecraft gets so boring after a while... Starbound looks like it will be IMPOSSIBLE to get bored while playing it. It will have so much content it'll make Terraria's content level look like Minecraft's.

I´m sure it has been said many times here, but Starbound isnt even out yet, and they are different genres, so you cant really compare them.

In my case Vanilla Minecraft is horrible, i find it really boring, but with mods its a different game (with lots of stuff to play, like trying to breed bees, creating nuclear reactors or researching magic).
Aside that, the strong point in Minecraft is the building aspect (its combat is horribly dull), since its a 3D game, you have more freedom on buildings.

Starbound is more combat oriented, something Metroidvania-esque (if that is even a word), you have more exploration and combat to do (a lot more weapons, mobs and the like). I dont think minecraft has a good exploration aspect to it, since there are what...5 passive mobs? so you may see some pretty places, but in all of them you always will find a bunch of pigs or a bunch of cows (or the others).

Saying "Minecraft is good with friends" is not a valid reason, I´m pretty sure Minesweeper with friends is better than playing it alone (as any game is).
Again, Starbound isnt released yet, and I´m pretty sure people will make awesome mods for it (I wouldnt mind having something similar to Thaumcraft in it =P).
So all in all, both games are different, both have their good parts about them, and you can always play both and see for yourself what you like the most.
