I hate these kind of questions because of all the reasons already posted (Starbound is not released yet, nobody really knows what the final product is like, Minecraft is a completed game, etc), so I'm not voting on the poll.Still going to give my opinion though.

While the Starbound team is going to update after the release 1 more year, and leaving a smaller team to do so after that; Mojang just became lazy and did poor updates ( :lod: ), as they gave all the work to the modding community.I really hope that with the addition of Searge (MCP creator, otherwise known as "The father of MC modding") to Mojang, they finally work their butt off and actually do something. But probably not, as Searge is a new member, not an old one.
Modding in Minecraft compared to Starbound modding?I don't really know. There are huge mods out there for MC, that really change the experience, sometimes even the game itself. But Starbound?Who knows, we can't mod it because there isn't a beta or a released game just yet.:wut:
And the damn servers, I don't think anyone brought this up.Eff, most servers in MC are just crap, and if you found one that's suited for you, it is a miracle.I don't want to blame anyone, but most of the server-fillers are just kids, even the modded ones. But Starbound, that's another topic. We already have a pair of "Mature-only players servers", and that's good enough I think.BUT.It may get flooded with children as well.:(

There MUST be more points that I missed, too.But who cares, both are a good game (IF we talk about Minecraft WITH mods), counting that they have their pros and cons(Don't look at me, I'm sure that SB has its bad things, too; but we just avoid thinking about them).Probably, at some time in the future, we'll also have youtubers like Direwolf20, Sethbling, CaptainSparklez, Coestar, etc, with their unique ability playing Starbound.:DD
Eff everyone that makes a comparison of everything with everything (including me :saywhat:), that cares about every little detail or mistake.I'm going to enjoy the game, not do that.

I'd have to side with starbound. This is because minecraft was rushed for their release to gain profit off x box. One could argue that it continuously updates but it now has the title of an official release. Its had multiple years of development but the game which has its only focuses on crafting, mining and fighting only has 8 minable materials, just over 110 crafting recipes (pretty sure its 108) and no combat animations or advanced moves. I strongly feel that minecraft, even know it is a fun game, does not deserve half the attention its receiving, and that the game just got a lucky break through theintroduction of lets players' and yogscast on youtube

Minecraft was in development for a long time and the PC version is more updated then the box. I don't see what your getting at :/ .

Im talking about the pc version, ive been playing since 1.7 beta, the game updates but at a very slow pace, and when it does, its upates are very small for the amount of time put into them, for example 1.4 was five months for 2 crops, frames pots and better stairs. My main point is that the game is nowhere near the same level of completion as starbound, and starbound hasent even gotten out of closed beta.

I'm sure everyone here knows this statement is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy false. MC is playable and feature complete. Starbounds not out the door yet and not all content will be available come beta. Also bugs.

By just looking at the levels of coding in the streaming of starbound, it surpasses that of minecraft. Minecraft uses a system that is severely outdated. So while mc is complete in a sense of they have a release, the game itself is incomplete. This is shown through both its updates and its gameplay. I understand starbound is not yet complete, but its core systems and gameplay is already more diverse( excluding the three dimensional, but even then it uses internal tics and linear physics)

Are we seriously doing the whole "you like something I don't, so i'm going to make an argument out of it" thing again? :wut:

    Im
Not trying to do so, as i do play and enjoy minecraft. I just belive that their systems need far more work and that this indie games shold not be placed on such a high pedestal. I mean, why do we regard it as a better game than something like skyrim or littlebig planet, which has exponentially more work and effort put into it. It just feels as if mc is popular because it went viral as soon as its beta was open.

    Eh :/

You can "guess" that Starbounds more complex by the code but then I can pull out Mount and Blades confusing triggers.txt and stare as you try to make sense of it. Anyways I'm not debating this anymore.

No one regards it as better. If they do it is a opinion. But it is also your opinon that Starbound is better.

(Sorry for the double post but I posted my above statement already so I could not edit this in)

The thing is too that when designing a game, having a confusing or intracate code does not influence the game. Its the reflected media (as in gameplay) that makes the game.

True. Guess well wait and see how Starbound turns out.

Well, it would weird if people were just playing or watching it because it's popular, you'd think they'd just stop if they didn't. So logically they play or watch it because they enjoy it, therefore it's popular because people like it.

Then again, maybe i'm being too logical, since people certainly do the opposite with a lot of things. o_O

I'll be completely honest with you logic does not always work with every human being.
On-topic: I like sandbox games. They could literally be about anything but if it allows me to build a house and stab something with something I'm good.

Id agree with what quantum said in a sense that a lot of people are not logical, for instance, a lot of people just played because they think its fun( nit that it isnt) or that they just want to post them
    Playing it to youtube.

Well all the people who like Minecraft probably voted "both", otherwise why would they be here in the first place? :p
