Treasure Adventure game is one of the best Metroidvainias I've seen in a long time... Chucklefish is publishing the remake and seriouslyguyshowhasnoonementionedtreasureadventuregameitevenhasitsownfreakingsubfourm! Seriously though, that game had some of the best boss fights in gaming ever. In fact, I'd say that if they manage to fix all the major flaws with the original, I'd put it at the same level as Cave Story(well, minus the 'story' part, but plus on the 'treasure' and 'adventure' parts).

i think metroid is cool person. but he has terrible curse on some nights and a whip doesn't do much against space pirate dragons and belly spike aliums. That Dracoola guy sure is a mean mamma jamma space captain.

i love me some metroidvania style games.... you hear of Chasm? it had a successful kickstarter campaign, made it through greenlight, and have a playable demo available. so far its pretty sweet. i recommend at least checking it out.

Metroidvania is a pretty kick-ass genre.

It's alright, the thread is still relevant.

Only an idiot would complain about you bumping this :>.

Maybe I should play a Castlevania game for once.

I know nobody cares, but I don't think I've ever played a "metroidvania." Nor can I say that I have any desire to try one.

And Devs said they get inspiration from those games. So why where is no RPG system in SB?:)

No it's always going to be Super Metroid for me. I grew up with a SNES.

It's also why A Link To The Past still blows every single Zelda that came after it out the water for me. Zelda is top down for me. It's that simple. The third person 3D incarnations just make me angry. Actually the same goes for the Metroid franchise as well. I just don't like the FPS style for it. I want it to be like Super Metroid.

I could not agree more. I would kill for a new Metroid with that old Super Metroid-ish style. Just imagine how good something like that would look on the WiiU.

Also, personally my favorite MetroidVania game was Cavestory. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was but dang was it great.

And what's special about Cave Story is that it was made by one man (or maybe some few others, dunno). It didn't even need donations, like so many indie games nowadays need. If there's one man who knows how to do a metroidvania, it's Pixel.

While I like Metroidvanias very much, I think to ask if it is the best genre ever is like asking if some kind of food is the best meal ever: it's pretty subjective. Different people like different things.

I don't know about Metroidvania games being the best genre ever, but I've played a lot of them... All of the 2d Metroid games and a lot of the Castlvania titles (Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance, Circle of the Moon, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia). I love the genre myself, and once manged to beat Super Metroid with a clear time of 1 hour 18 minutes, without using Mockball or other cheap glitch abuse tactics. What is kinda sad though, is that I actually can't mockball... lol

Shadow Complex is the sole reason I still have my Xbox 360. I'm a huge fan of Metroid-Vania clones, I've got a few of them:

    - DUST: An Elysian Tale
    - Rogue Legacy
    - Valdis Story: Abyssal City
    - Trine & Trine 2
    - Spelunky
    - Cave Story +
    - Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet <- VEHICULAR Metroid-Vania
    - OUTLAND
    - Guacamelee!
    - Shadow Complex

I...wouldn't quite call Maple Story a Metroid-Vania game. It only seems like it because it uses a persistent world from a 2-D perspective. To me a Metroid-Vania game is one that has a large or procedurally-generated map, played from a 2-D side view perspective, a progressive gain of powers and items, back-tracking to earlier points in the world to utilize these new powers to progress or find new things, and have boss battles. Admittedly, Maple Story DOES posses these qualities, but...I just wouldn't call it that.
