    I've only had meteorites hit my planet once... Was a starting planet I was on with one other person. Needless to say we left the planet, and went to another, that didn't seem to have the issues of meteorites. The starting planet though did have low gravity.

    I think certain planets with thicker atmospheres should be less prone to meteor showers, or have none at all. Maybe the navigation menu could say things like "Planet orbits in the path of meteors, expect frequent bombardment.."

    Updated op, they are not immune but yeah, survive longer then any other blocks

    Well, meteors are very annoying to me. I found a really nice volcanic planet, Make a science facility, then it got bombarded by meteors, I repaired it. Its happend 6 more times just today..
    Hopefully the two layers of protection I made will save me from the eighth meteor shower..

    Got hit very aggressively this time. The bombardment lasted at least a minute or two.
    It also looks like meteors only come from the LEFT side. I havn't had much to fully test this theory but, keep that in mind.

    Argh 3 Meteor Showers in 10 Minutes ....
    I had build my house from Light Metal and i have also build a forest .
    So i can make the forest every time new trees after the Meteor Impacts
    And the flags and crap on my house ....

    Interesting observation, gonna test on that also a little bit more

    Noticed the same thing as well. The two I've experienced so far, on different planets, both came from the left.

    I went to sleep in an apex building on my starting planet so I wouldn't freeze. Came back 20 minutes later to find all but the platform I was on destroyed from a light shower. Makes me want to find an avian town and wait in it to see the effects on a town.

    Made me glad I started building underground, since I was tired of flocks of birds wiping out my guards, merchants, and people when they went outside. Guess I'll "pave" the area above ground with one of the tougher materials to help protect from the showers. I'd be good if you could craft tech shields to protect buildings from showers.

    Am I the only one who suffers the effects of some Advanced Open GL type crap here? I set up camp in an underground research facility, and every time there's a meteor shower, (so far at least one every night. >_>) depending on my depth underground, different layers of the facility will be all but destroyed and I can't even begin to collect all the dropped blocks because of the lava.

    This is the results of a meteor shower on my starting planet on a new character I created

    Does Titanium/Magmarock/etc survive the huge meteorites or just the small showers? I've noticed that nothing survives a bomb anymore.. where previously obsidian/magmarock could laugh at a few of them. I'm worried that a giant meteorite would have at the least the power of a small bomb...

    Huge meteorites? Havent had a chance to see their effects on those blocks yet, sadly one of them only hit an avian village on another planet, well the whole place got messed up, not all of it, but it left a nice crater...

    I didn't even realize this happened, I haven't been able to play for long periods. Does it happen even on "normalized" planets? Or is it just a full game random event? What I mean is does it happen on planets that seem like earth or every planet has the opportunity for them?

    Right now the best thing for meteorite protections is strangely wood as my house is made completely of it and survived two direct hits like it was nothing.

    Some sort of defense system would be cool. I'm thinking automated turrets. Warning systems. Mannable turrets.

    I think people need to grasp that the game is still BETA. When they add new things they very well may make them rather common, like with these showers so people run into them and test them, learn of them, find ways to defend against them, before they reshape it to make it a bit more rare, or only show on some planets.
    It's much better to program an event to be common so you can have most the people test it, then make it rare and have just a handfull test it.
    Yes it's a bit annoying right now, but this is BETA.

    Idea for a mod: A block re-inforcement mod: You have 'pretty' blocks, combine them with some ores and the output is a much stronger, but visually the same or similar.
    So the output would be pretty & strong - meteor proof building materials.

    e.g. titanium reinforced wood
    The recipe would be something like 1 titanium + 50 wood = 50 reinforced wood.

    Perhaps you could add a few extra lines of code to reclaim the ore by smelting it.

    For those who completly dislike meteorites and want them simply gone:

    Go ahead into your starbound folder. Search for assets. Then click on biomes, then surface, then you see a list of all biomes which are currently in the game.
    Go in each folder of them now and open [biomename].surfacebiome with an editor, prefereable notepad ++.

    Scroll down, the first lines are out of interest. You should find at some point a line looking like this, this is for the arid biome:

    "weather" : [
    [
    [0.1, "glowingrain"],
    [0.9, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [0.03, "meteorshower"],
    [0.97, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [0.01, "largemeteor"],
    [0.99, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ]
    ],

    As you might be able to tell from your own. These are the chances of weathers occuring. 1.00 is therefor a 100% chance for a weatherevent happening whenever a weatherevent is triggered and 0.01 is a 1% chance.
    So theres currently for the arid biome a chance of 1% that each weather effect triggered will be a large meteor and 0.03 for each weathereffect will be a meteorshower. As far as I can tell weathereffects in different "categories" can be stacked, means glowingrain and largemeteors can happen at the same time, glowingrain, meteorshower and largemeteor aswell. But not Clear, glowingrain, meteorshower, clear, largemeteor, clear. Hope you got what I mean.
    So basicly you want meteorites disabled right?

    How to do that:

    1. Go ahead and make a backup of ALL files you are going to alter, just in case something goes wrong.
    2. Go into each biome you want to have free of meteorites and scroll down to the lines setting weather params. Change the chance of meteorite showers and large meteorites to 0.00 and for clear to 1.00.

    Finished product looks like that:

    "weather" : [
    [
    [0.1, "glowingrain"],
    [0.9, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [0.00, "meteorshower"],
    [1.00, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [0.00, "largemeteor"],
    [1.00, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ],
    [
    [1.0, "clear"]
    ]
    ],

    3. Save the changes, run starbound and see if it worked.
    4a. If it worked, be happy and move on with a live without meteorites. Please post here if it worked.
    4b. If it doesnt work in ANY manners then let me know aswell. Put back the backup you made of the files you altered and I will try my best to find another solution
    5. When a new update is out make sure you REPLACE the altered files by the old ones just to make sure nothing goes wrong while updating.

    Need somebody who tests it a little since I am currently busy. Let me know if it worked. That would be basicly my idea how to disable meteorites for all those people which are heavily annoyed by them.

    Updated OP with the option to disable all meteorites until devs gave us a way to destroy them via shieldings/missiles/anything else or until they are only happening in certain biomes. Just for those who completly want them gone as they are in now.
