Meteor showers

At night there would be a small chance that theres a meteor shower in the backround, and this could result to rare events or mobs, or maybe just for a fun detail

 

Rare events such as meteors on the ground? That would be awesome. Or yes it could be for a nice scene setter.

Using them to craft rare objects? That'd be cool.

 

No reason not to have it as a background thing. I would even give it fair odds that they already have something like it in the game

 

The meteors could hit the player or their structures and destroy property.
Plus you could introduce new creatures that landed in the meteor. An occasional event would bring a new hostile creature to a planet to give you trouble.

 

Meteor showers just sound awesome.

Dude, this is Starbound. A game that focuses on space and planetary travel. Why the deuce has nobody come up with this idea until now?!

Surprised no one has mentioned that this happened in terraria. Meteorites! Would love to see it expanded in starbound =D

 

It would be fun if you could jettison a bunch of rocks out of your spaceship in orbit to create an artificial meteor shower.

 

Making shields to defend your own skin/base...Hmm...Challenging, I like it

 

I love this, as long as meteor wont destroy my base/train.

 

I like the idea of background meteor showers but as for it crashing into the planet/creatures being inside it, as it enters the atmosphere of a planet the friction burns up most of the meteor so ones that do land will be relatively small and any creatures in them will burn up with it. This is all assuming that the planet you are on has an atmosphere like earth or thicker. On a planet with a thinner atmosphere I could see all of this happening and it would be really awesome as long as it doesn't land on my custom built mega lab for testing physics and AI in beta.

 

It would be cool if there was a rare chance that there's a space virus that comes from meteors (Deoxys FTW). It would be important that players would be able to protect themselves before events such as this happen (look at some of the way Terraria is designed), like having meteor showers not occur until some sort of shield to protect against them is created and placed in the world, or after an amount of in-game days that a player would normally be able to develop that technology, with a rather large cusion of, say, 50 days on top of the minimum time it would normally take. Even with meteor showers occuring, there should be only a small percentage that they even land, and on top of that causing large amounts of damage. However, I do think it would be amusing if there was a way to almost "summon" meteor showers that have larger meteors, or having planets inside or near asteroid belts that are much more prone to meteor showers.

 

So, like, you're walking along during a meteor shower and a small piece of flaming rock randomly hits you on the head and knocks you senseless? I love it.

 

The probability that a meteor falls on a surface is so small that not contemplate this event. However, to see a meteor shower in the sky, that's a great idea, mister!
