Message to Concerned Ape

I know your to proud of yourself as being the sole creator/coder of stardew valley but come on man, get some help from others. The updates to the game are way too slow. I think this as an ego problem of some sorts. Let go of your pride man!

 

the last update was only a few months ago... and the game hasn't even been out very long... and the update is coming very soon.......... so..................

i don't think it's an ego thing, i think it's wanting full creative control and i personally prefer it that way. he knows the sdv world better than anyone else does.

 

He has gotten help for some of the more technical stuff such as porting and the technical side of multiplayer. I'm pretty sure he just likes doing all the content solo. I dont think it's ego issue. (Also i have a feeling the next update is coming sometime in June but dont quote me on that)

 

I would rather wait for a CA original, without any meddling by other people, that I can enjoy while feeling familiar. I suppose if other people were to jump in, and if done incorrectly, lots of things were bound to be lost (like how our character is supposedly a creep, always coming out of a bush during events).and that would feel just... awful.

 

For multiplayer and ports, he's struck a deal with Chucklefish for them to handle it. I can't speak to ConcernedApe's pride, but have to admit that if I'd made a game that was among the best sellers on Steam in my first try, all on my own, I'd be pretty puffed up about it. Deservedly so, too. More power to him. But I doubt any of us are qualified to judge the size of his ego.

 

haha @Borodin spot on there. I mean dude did good, credit where it's most certainly due. If Chucklefish are handling the MP then at least we can be assured that it'll be fairly smooth and painless.

But I bet the reason he doesn't want to work with anyone else is just because it's hard to work with people, especially on artistic endeavors. It's not like it's easy to share a thought or image in your head exactly the way you see it and want it done. Everyone had their own visions on how things should be done. And it's kind of harder to work with others when you're an introvert or really particular about how things are done. You have to really know and trust those people.
Not to mention with projects like this you work on them so long it's almost like they are your children. You don't want anyone else raising them for you. lol

And I agree, he does know the world better than anyone. It's probably best he keeps doing what he's doing.
Even if he does have a bit of an ego (I'm not saying he does), I think it's fairly deserved. He's done an absolutely amazing job so far.

 

nah, i wouldn't say that. you pretty much said why in some of your post.

if this game is your baby, you know what's best for your baby. CA has a pretty good grasp on what he can and can't do i imagine, so with what he can't do is what chucklefish is handling, and what he can do (i.e. the world of the game, characters, gameplay, development) is what he prefers to do alone. if he had to work with others, it would be a lot harder to portray what he has envisioned for his baby. it'd be good to get a lot of feedback/suggestions from others, but in this case, i think it's good he's taking the majority of the game on his own. (and then we're able to give him feedback and suggestions anyway so yes)

 

Agreed. Minecraft really slipped into decline after Notch handed off "lead developer" status to Jeb. (eg. The rule Notch explicitly stated on his blog during the glory days of the Seeecret Friday Updates was "never add a new material or mob unless it has a distinct and unique role in the game." Under Jeb, we got types of stone like granite which do nothing but get mistaken for something else at a distance.)

Never underestimate the power of keeping maximum creative control with the person who has the vision.

 

Dude, the game's been out for three months. It was updated a month ago. And we have a fairly large content update on the way. There's no need to be so impatient let alone attack the man. Relax. Have patience. Let the man work at his pace and save messages like this for when he goes all Star Citizen on us.

You know, It's not like it's taking him year between updates and he just gives us content that had half-finished and full of bugs as if he can't figure out what he's doing, it's not a pride issue to keep working on a project that you started on your own that you can keep going on your own. He is however getting help in some places as he stated but even if he did have more people working with him we would still have to wait between updates. There are many other games that have months or more between them and it's got nothing to do with an ego just because it's like that. It's double and triple checking the work to make sure it all goes as smoothly as it can for the players with the smallest amount of bugs as possible, work of devs or a single dev. Be more patient.

 

I've seen videos of CA and he seems remarkably humble considering his success. I too am glad he's sticking solo for the development part. This is where some games have gone wrong over the years. People make a successful and unique game, they make a sequel but with many more people involved, but it doesn't have the same feel to it any more. This way CA's Stardew Valley (the STV we currently know and love) will continue on, not somebody else's Stardew Valley.

 

Maybe we should give Stardew Valley to somebody else? It'd be like the Joja path, but in real life!

I also respectfully disagree, for most of the reasons mentioned in this thread.

 

The updates will be done when they're done. This isn't a AAA production where a patch gets shoved out the door every few days then hotfixed right after. Chill out.
