Memes in Starbound, yes or no?

I'd like to see memes like this:

 

Any memes would have to be cleverly hidden. For example, in a book about the Epsilon sector:
'Did you know there are over 9.0x10^3 star systems in Epsilon sector? Not all have been explored yet!'
Rather than:
'How many stars in the Epsilon sector? OVER NINE THOUSAND!!1!!ONE!'

No. I dont care how subtle it is. Always makes me cringe.

I wouldn't mind if they paid homage to other games though.

 

I don't remember really any "memes" to be in Borderlands 2. Just insanely witty writing.

 

That's not funny, nor is it a "meme". Memes refer to something viral, i.e, Leroy Jenkins, Grumpy Cat etc.

 

Ugh, I've seen enough memes in the game already, to be honest. I'd rather we not go beyond the "rustled jimmies" and "keep calm and carry on" posters.

I'd honestly rather have more cameos and subtle "references" then straightforward memes. Like, the Robot Hat in Terraria. I really liked that.

 

I completely agree with this. Memes are not funny and are very unoriginal.

 

Those aren't memes, those are called image macros. A meme is an idea that spreads and mutates. Internet memes aren't funny because by the time they're considered memetic they're already overused/

 

There are enough memes on the internet already.

 

Memes are beneath Starbound and the level of quality it holds.

 

I'll compromise here and say if they are kept to a very low minimum, then I'm fine with it if that's what the developers want.
Make it almost easter egg rarity like for example after fighting through an infested abandoned base on a cold dead planet you find a log book that details their horrible end, then end it out with a little something situationaly appropriate.

This is why I consider memes the death of humor. Repeating the same little phrase for years on end has literally killed anticipation for original comedy in favor of washed out repetition.
