Memes in Starbound, yes or no?

Hey guys please keep this on topic, so avoid unnecessary posts and what not

 

thinking about memes being the thing that is left behind by our society in the distant future made me contemplate setting off a nuke

 

Maybe, as long as they are somewhat out of the way but still obscure. Depends on the meme.

 

References are great when used IN CONTEXT. If you shove something in just to have it, no matter what it is it will be stupid. This goes for references in general not just memes. (Yes, there is a difference which people don't seem to understand for whatever reason)

 

I think that is what's being insinuated and blamed here. The person. As in the developers, for tactless use of memes.

 

As long as it is not flashy and obvious, I'd like there to be meme references in item descriptions or like a mask that looks somewhat like a troll face.

 

The table already says "Hold ALL the feasts!" and I just think it's pretty dumb. It doesn't feel like a real joke or a real anything. If they wanted to reference it, I feel like they could have at least been a bit more subtle.

I wonder how long it'll take till we get the "princess is in another castle" joke.

 

It's probably just place holder text. They had a screen shot with a book titled, "Forever Alone: Coping," or something like that.
At least, I hope it's place holder text.

 

yeah, I'm hoping for that too. I'm pretty sure they know that a lot of people dislike memes, but I'm not totally sure they care which is a little disappointing. I don't really blame them. I'm not exactly going to play Starbound for the text and dialogue I suppose, but good writing is always nice

 

No. Memes are a product of the times and age VERY poorly.

How about we do what Homestuck did with sweet bro and hella jeff, and make a comic/movie/videogame/something into the game, and reuse some quips from there as in-universe memes?

 

I don't mind them, it's just that in the past (I'm looking at YOU, Borderlands 2 ) they have been overused in games.
If there in a small amount and only happen every now and then, then that's fine with me. However, if they are used excessively (Borderlands 2 excessively) then it would get rather boring after a while.
Not saying that I wouldn't play it due to some silly memes, but It would get very tedious.
The Devs will think of something original though, I'm sure of it.

Wouldn't it be more fun for Starbound to develop its own memes naturally? Forcing existing memes is never good.
