My Idea is that most things including fire (like torches, flamethrowers, lava etc) can melt ice blocks if in close enough contact for enough time, leading the ice to get considerably weaker (leading to scenario's where ice may break underneath your feet if you are heavy enough carrying equipment or in a mech or just happen to be crossing over on foot no matter how light) And in the same way, if cold enough and without proper insulation or regular maintanence (blowtorches and ice picks may come in handy) ice may creep into your base shutting down your electronics and jamming your doors mucking everything up and trapping you there unless you find a way out (in which you will probaly starve, freeze to death and go insane but whether that is too much for starbound to handle i don't know).
this could make lava "fun". player: Oh ill just build a 1 block thick stone bridge over this lava and ill be perfectly fine. *returns later and crosses* *blocks crumble* *dead* I like it
Also using heat proof structures and lava and then cooling it down for instant rock houses and whatnot.
Destroy a city of ice with a napalm strike Very interesting idea... reminds me of that heat/conduction one too
Melting ice with flames sounds like a given, it would be weird if you played starbound and your fire didn't break ice...
