From what we have seen so far, melee weapons such as swords, axes and spears have only a single way to attack. It would be interesting if there was a way to cycle between attack types from the usual arc, to a lunge, free aim, vertical arc. I suggest using the right click in the mouse, or perhaps some key like ctrl or shift to change. That would make for diversity and advantages and flaws between different types of weapons, both when fighting other players and monsters. For example, the spear would have a better range and damage when using a lunge attack, but would not be so effective when using the horizontal arc attack (the current default of swords, I believe). Swords would not be so good with lunge, but both slashing arcs would be great. Axes could have a bigger knockback, smaller range, and slightly different attack types than the sword and spear.

I had the impression that the animation for weapons is the same among a lot of different ones, unless the weapon is made of laser or something that glows. Perhaps that can be used and angled to different directions. As for damage, I'm guessing it would be a slight change in the codes depending on weapon type, hopefully not too complicated.
Actually it could be very simple. Technique 1 - Point Form. (get it? no? ok.) Already the game is designed so your character faces your mouse so we have a 180 degree window to work with. So what if perhaps that window you have in front of you can be used strategicly? May I present to you all: The Point Form Chart! Yes I know it's not a battle scene but whatever I'm lazy. Perhaps depending on where you point in front of you can have different effects and/or animations for combat? Maybe overhand or underhand swings could do slightly less damage but have a much larger hit radius, whereas the thrust could do more damage but only in front of you. Obviously this is just an idea or example. Technique 2 - Button combos What if pressing a button like shift or control while attacking could do different attacks? This one might perhaps be easier than the last to do but might not be quite as simplified for the player. Technique 3 - Alt fire method Maybe it can be as simple as Left click, Right click and Middle mouse click? Just some ideas, yo.
1) My first idea depends on where you click on the screen, I guess I wasn't all that clear. Clicking in the designated areas allow you to attack certain sections of your surroundings. My thoughts are derived from Chivalry lol 2) You just gave birth to another thought: Fighting game combos! But you can use your imagination for that. Quick example because I can't resist: While in the air, pressing down (S or down arrow) and clicking at the same time could make you do a downward thrust like link in Super Smash Bros. or something. That would be cool. 3) It would be cool if what you say is true. Then imagine a 1-handed Katana but you hold the scabbard in your other hand. Right clicking will make you put the sword away then dash forward with a cool ninja slash. Stylish, powerful, but slow. A girl can dream
Hey guys, nice of you to start a discussion here. I like your first idea, JeenShii, but the third is my favorite, and sort of what I suggested. I don't know how left, middle and right click would work, but it's quite a good choice, I think cycling might become troublesome if you want to cycle back to the last type, assuming we'd have 3 types of attack. Or perhaps that could be changed with shift+right click, it's another idea. I agree, that's why I suggested something simpler like a click only, seeing we have lots of keys (star)bound to shift, with the quickbar shortcuts and everything. The ideas with combos are quite nice too, but it can become a little "street fightery", I guess.
