ALL OF IT. Well, at least a lot. Their lore could just be a lot of conspiracy theorist's writings, and maybe obvious propaganda, like this: "Of course there wasn't a conspiracy. The homes of all those union rights activists just so happened to catch fire in the same night because it was dry season, simple as that. To suggest anything otherwise is an insult to those who died, when you should be paying your respects." --news clipping from the Editorial section. Author unknown. There could be lots of references to mob bosses getting caught, then released without trial despite massive evidence, then the evidence gets destroyed or goes missing due to some sort of "freak accident". Inconvenient people disappearing. Maybe the notes of a recently deceased journalist who was researching why several big business owners, powerful criminals, and political leaders all happened to go missing at the same times, then suddenly be back (went to a meeting together), despite not having any other connections to each other. Bonus points if there is specks of dried oil-blood on the pages. Using stuff like that, you'd never have to come near any actual information about it, and yet you'd have tons of lore to read that would have way more atmosphere and be more entertaining to read. Also, sounds like they should be called the Obscurans, because the truth about them is obscure. It means hidden, and I can only imagine you misspelled it? Anyway, I agree that another name would be better (Viscans sounds good, we don't have a race that starts with "V" yet, and just because they are viscous does not mean they are made of oil, so it isn't really an obvious clue to their nature).
Let me just say, that was some great feedback. Many thanks. I'd love to be able to write it in that style. I'll see what I can do about that. Was mostly trying to keep it straight forward though, for the sake of simple reading, and to create the structure for it; after all, it is a suggestion. That'd certainly make it all more entertaining, though, as you said. The visual aspect might be a bit more difficult to pull off. Not sure how I'd go about making it, to be honest. Oscura itself is pretty much the same in meaning. Literally has obscure in the definition. Latin word, if I recall correctly. I'll ask around about the name, though. Don't want people to get mad at me for changing it so often. ^^;
Great idea! The originality in this race's biology and history is staggering. I sincerely hope the devs add more races such as these if not vanilla, then post-release.
Everybody is out there being produtive and I'm here spriting not-hair for shadow/blob people: I'm in a spriting mood.
Now that is some awesome stuff man.I really love that one in the classic powdered wig style. Thanks for doing them up in both colors, too! Great work.
The powdered wig was pure coincidence, I was trying to make something kinda like pouring cake mix in a tray (it makes a nice wavy pattern).
Interesting... definitely has though behind it... mob oil people not the 1st thing I'd think of... (In comparison I can say sadly my ideas wouldn't work as we are confined to humanoids )
Don't be afraid to dream a little. Write stuff done, edit it and edit it. Go to other people for ideas. Getting the input of others was critical for me. I wish you the best of luck. It can never hurt to try.
I don't know why the x 3 spritesheet lost its transparency all of a sudden. I'll see if I can get you a version with transparency tomorrow. When working with the hair I kept to 3 major themes, 1920's, goopy, or oily. My personal favorite is the pompadour.
Great! I couldn't made it look like any actual hairstyle. With these, there are 40 hairstyles, more than the Avian or Apex and the same number as the Gemétoile.
Got some great artwork of an Oscuran soldier. Not sure who it's by, though, sadly. If you drew it please let me know and I'll credit you.
I don't like the dots on its face, it doesn't look like it's particularly gooey. The ones on what I'm assuming are its hair and ponytail are spot on, though.
