Race Meet the Monophytes

It's a requirement. All races need to fit the original template, or they won't be able to wear armor or use weapons of other handheld items.

 

Is it possible to have the horns and hair change at the same time? It could work a lot like glitch head mod, maybe they could be called mutation instead.

You have all my likes. So far it looks like the best Race idea on the whole forum. Yet there is one thing troubling me: how do the communicate with each other? Telepathy?

 

I'm not sure what to think of this race; very well drawn I must say. Its doesn't make much sense to have eyes over your body to "absorb" light to feed themselves as you say. A photosensitive pigment coating on the skin would be much more efficient, y'know, like chlorophyll or carotenoids. And it don't take more than a pair of eyes behind your head to have a 360° view, so having many eyes over the body wouldn't be any useful and would probably have not been promoted by evolution considering how fragile and squishy eyes are. It would be better to have shielding, scales or hairs over your body for more useful functions. Sorry, I'm a biologist.

As for the rest, I think you race is decent. Since you dislike them when they're bald, you could try putting other things on their heads than plain human hairs, such as branchy stuff, scales, more horns, spikes, antenneas, tentacles, bumps, orifices, skin complexion, etc.

"Mono" means "single" which is good since they're kinda like cyclops
but the suffix "Phytes" means "plants" and well, they don't look much like plants putting aside the fact that they feed on light (which brings me to my final point).

You can't just feed on light, I hope you know that. The only way plants manage to do that is with a root system and with constant absorption/evaporation of water and the intake of ions and minerals by those roots. To make it simple, they need an intake of elements in order to grow and stay alive to make biological sense. These guys need a mouth, or at the very least, a very absorptive skin on which they'd spread their nutrients.

Thanks for some feedback, first of all.

Second, of course it doesn't make sense, because it's an unearthly creature after all. However, I'm not just going to stop with the "but oh, fantasy" excuse, which I, too, find rather ridiculous. Monophytes are former inhabitants of the Vis planet, a planet filled with everything eyes and nightmares. Their superiority over other eye species is the fact that they, unlike most other species, are capable of withstanding the intense light of their star. That means that they can reside within the bright "trenches" of the planet which is filled with, you got it, nothing. There are no creatures there, except the primal Monophytes. Their only source of energy comes from up in the sky, the solar light that keeps all manner of predators away.

As for the squishy eye thing, these eyes are not at all squishy. They're actually part of the skeletal system of the Monophytes. The only eye that still has the ability of sight is the main eye, undamaged from evolution. Unlike their primal counterparts which are slithery demonic creatures, Monophytes don't use those eyes anymore, and they are slowly becoming useless. That's why Monophytes cover them up with their drapes.

As for the hair issue, I've tried other sorts of stuff [tentacles, shells]. I haven't released any image of it, however. Maybe this weekend.

As for the name, this was originally a plant cyclops race, to be honest. It was until I connected the two ideas [Vis Planet and Monophytes] together to form an idea I find more disturbing and less understood.

As for the photosynthesis requirements, pshhaw, I don't want to overcomplicate things, it's simple enough :P Just kidding. I'll think of something, or if not, I'll leave it that way.

I would like to say that athough you have good points ,The third an fourth posts we kinda discuss the possibility of mouths and food a bit. As for the evolution and the other what not involving them not being very good evolution wise, this race was experimented on and brought into sentience by outside forces so evolution has no real standing. Your points are very good but I think you skipped over key information that would otherwise answer your question.

 

Usually the suggestion part of the forums are full of ridiculous ideas and people asking for sex in-game. Then you get things like these.

9/10 would play.

 

I thought of something now for the "eyes". Now you say their home star is very bright, as we both know, eyes adapt to light or darkness by changing the diameter of the pupil via the contraction/decontraction of the iris. being bombarded by so much solar radiation, even if you used light as an energy source, would require a form of protection to the intense light, and that's where your eyes come in. Each eyes having a fully functional iris changing the diameter of its own pupil, it would adapt to receive just enough light to get the necessary energy, but not too much to prevent any damage to the photoreceptive tissues in the eye.

We're talking about evolution of a species here, not technology. There could be a biologic equivalent to sunglasses tho, that's original. But I was just trying to make sense of all these eyes covering the body.

pst suika, the ends of the hand feet, you can say they absorb stuff through there. The ends do kind of look like suckers....

though that would again go back to the plant/root system ...


Also... what type of clothing would they generally wear? >-> I might wanna draw one but I dislike the cloak.
