Great, another furry race. J/k Great, Chik fil a is getting in on the Starbound action J/k This is actually really cool and I hope this at the very least gets modded, style points on their culture snag.
I for one approve of this. Mostly because I have lived in Greenland for quite some time and this have a muskoxen feel to it. (Did you know that muskoxes are actually in the same family as goats and not actually oxes?) Another thing I must mention.. In Greenland Igloos are merely a temporarily shelter at winter, should there be no other to be found nearby. In fact, before Greenland became a Danish colony (no longer is, but it was for a time), the native people at the time lived in huts made of dirt.
I'm guessing that Boketai life is nomadic due to how they needed to keep on moving if they wanted to outrun the frigid nighttime of their home planet. However, that's just about all that I know about Boketai culture and lifestyle. I don't know enough about Boketai society/culture to be able to form convincing interspecies relationships between them and one of my own proposed races, such as the Felix. For example, what do the Boketai value most? Strength? Family? Community? Nature? Knowledge? Cheese? (OK, maybe not cheese. )
I'd imagine that the Boketai is a heavily spiritual race, as implied by the racial lore, and that first contact with alien life had left them divided over whether or not they should follow their new "gods" into the far reaches of space. Perhaps the reason why the Boketai left their home planet is because it was torn asunder by civil wars over the matter of faith. With that said, I also think that the Boketai used mainly natural products as their primary materials -- the animals they hunt grant them leather for clothing, bones for tools and decoration, and meat and organs for food. Buildings would be made of wood, stone and ice. Usable metal might not be in abundance, so spears and other polearms made of sharpened stone and wood may have been their primary weapons, with metal halberds belonging only to chieftains or the military elite. Of course with their recent acquisition of modern sci-fi tech this may have changed for them. It's got a sort of primitive vibe is what I'm saying.
I'm currently awaiting Banphira's reply to my questions about Boketai society and culture, since she's the one that came up with the idea for the Boketai race: (Anybody else's opinions, yours and mine included, aren't necessarily considered canon.)
Since the Floran eat human flesh, it's only fair to have a race humans eat. The Boketia look delicious.
@Shadow Wolf TJC The reason the Boketai left their planet to search the stars was because it was almost uninhabitable (it's in the lore). I imagine that most of the race went searching for a new home, whilst a few decided to go out scouting on their own, or leave the 'herd' as it was. I would love to some how incorporate made from nature items but with some sci-fi modern tech some how. A bit like how the floran ships have vines interwoven. I was playing with the idea of an ice-structure ship, not sure if that would work, but I am thinking about it. @CGadmirer I do imagine the race as being heavily spiritual and nomadic, probably wit a lot of emphasis on family. I need to flesh our the culture/tech section a bit. I'd like to think about rituals and things like that.
I allowed myself to work on some sprites. Hope you like them.. I probably wont stop yet. May make a bunch more EDIT: Btw... These are ofcourse without hair. I may make some hair sprites later on
@ThePhail Those are really nice Love the horn experimentation. I'd like to try and keep some patterning on the skin though to make them more interesting when they're naked
Now I just want to play as the Ground O: I can make hair... fear me. Anyway, this is a really nice suggestion. I'd like to see it or something similar implemented into the game.
