Oops now that you mention it, I see it too. Those wingy things on the side was what made me think it might be avian.

Definitely, the art style matches a couple of the hylotl racial armors as well!
Yeah I'd love to see the other ones as well. From the looks of the hylotl one, they are very similar since they seem to have the same machine gun set up. Perhaps they are faster or shoot lasers?

no clue, but I just finally got a decent 30 AP gun, so I have no excuse to use the mech at this point until its un-nerfed

    I hope the Floran Mech is just a Treent that has melee attacks instead of machine guns @,@;

Nice going! The higher damage guns are a lot of fun, the rocket launcher I found is 36 AP and I've killed myself with it at least 10 times. Another interesting take could be allowing the mech to "use" the weapon you have equipped. Such as if you have a rocket launcher, it shoots rockets, etc.
I was actually thinking something similar. It occurred to me that the races seem to have some scattered advancements in technology as well as their own signature machines/styles. I would definitely expect the floran mech to be very... floral.

Instead of scaling weapons and armor with yours, i would like to be able to upgrade my mech. Like starting with metal one tier after the mech was found:

    • mechs can be found in tier 4, so upgrades begin with tier 4 metal. (Hull upgrades)
    • upgrades for different functions, like having a spotlight installed, mining equipment, jetpack, laser dot aiming etc.
    • possibility of melee weaponry on my mech
    • change colour
    = mech customization

That's definitely an option. The only reason I shy away from that particular course of action is because there is already significant upgrade capabilities at each tier. You have to upgrade each piece of your armor as well as find or forge a new weapon. Do you really want to have to grind out another 150 steel bars to finish upgrading your mech as well?

Whatever the devs have planned for the mechs, it's going to be as great as the rest of this.
No other game kept me hyped for well over a year without a real product going for it during that time!

    You have a point ;)
That's why I would like to find more ores/bars in chests or as a reward in dungeons. This game needs to much digging right now for my taste. I don't want a space-Clonk ^^

They have to expand the exploration factor, so they could for instance just create bigger natural cave-systems, where you go in and don't have to dig through the whole planet to find underground-dungeons/biomes.

Or implement a scanner so you get a clue where you have to dig.

I couldn't agree more. I've been following Starbound for a long time and am continuously surprised and pleased by the ingenuity shown by the Dev team! I have no doubt that the mechs will continue to evolve as the beta goes on.

I think a scanner might be a little bit much. In regards to having extra ores and bars as well as cave systems to ease the flow of digging and exploration, I have a feeling that as they improve the world generation that will come as a result. Even then, the amount/number of tiers of content still make me hesitant to hop on board a linear progression train, at least when it comes to mechs. I have seen too many games where little things like upgrading your ship fall through the cracks because of the lack of a good time spent:benefit ratio for non-essential aspects of games.

Every other tech retains value at any tier. Only the mech becomes worse than useless.

Don't worry, they'll fix it. I anticipate a very long Beta, considering how many issues are brought up and how much content is left to be added. And even after release, LOTS of content updates. Right now, despite their best efforts, the universe still feels very empty or at least abandoned.

First of all, WHERE THE HELL did you get a Rocket Launcher? Second, you pointed out EVERYTHING that was bothering me so much about mechs, but the damage is what drives me crazy. You can imagine my frustration when I got out of the Apex lab I found mine straight to my ship and back to the lvl 36 planet saying "All right, suckers, who wants a piece of me?" only to deal 1 dmg and have to eject before I got killed by a common monster.

And I'm pretty sure ocean biomes are confirmed =)

Just guessing, but I would be surprised if Mechs stayed a tech, honestly. It makes a lot more sense that once the devs figure out how, the mech will be an item you place in the world and you will be able to get into it and out of it and maybe even mod its components with some kind of interface, meaning you'd park it in your garage and have to go back for it if you went into a space too tight for it to fit. You know, like Mechs do/are.

But as it stands, the game is still VERY beta, and it's easy to forget that, considering how awesome it already is.

Rocket Launcher was a drop from a level 41 Apex Mob. I would honestly go so far as to say that the mechs really haven't been implemented yet. I took a look at the lua config files and there is a lot of things missing. Such as the projectiles are created, but no properties are defined for them.

I wouldn't. From what I've seen, the current plan is for your energy to essentially be the durability of the mech. As you take damage your energy goes down until your mech despawns and you have to wait a short while before using it again. That was a fairly early explanation for the mech mechanics so it's entirely possible that they still plan to change a lot.

Mechs will be improved later on, though I will note that I hope they add jump jets to it.
I mean whats a bipedal mech without jump jets?

Story of my life, I'm really hoping that they add something as well. I haven't had any real problems traversing terrain, but it's very inconvenient to have to get in and out of the mech any time I need to cross a puddle of poison/climb a cliff.

That lie mech is apex, or that's what the wiki says. I hope they add an avian mech as avians my favorite race and they need a mech.

I don't like the suggestion of surface ore removal, digging into the ground when in sector x when going from feroZium to cureluem is a pain
