Did you know that the US Military is already prototyping Exoskeletons for humans? I think Starbound should have Exoskeletal armor, like things that make you bigger, stronger and more agile. They could act as vehicles and armor crossed together, and carry heavier items and weapons than a normal character. Could anybody make a good sprite?
