I dont know how much the devs are going into the interaction between player and blocks, but I would like to see something like the Tekkit mod pack for Minecraft. Just the mechanical blocks not the items. Blocks that create items, smelting, mining, and transport (pipes or conveyor belts[which actually exist]), and even elevators for items and players. Conveyor belt would be awesome IMO because in my mind they can be used to transport everything from mobs to items. You could also set up complicated traps and home defenses with them. Another good idea are tanks for water and other liquids (using pipes to pump them to it). Just a cool idea IMO but once again, I have no idea how much the plan to go into block player interaction.
I just hope it wouldn't be as complicated as Tekkit. But yeah, I'd love to see these in game, especially conveyor belts.
Lol, yea, Tekkit can get complicated. I meant the idea to only include the simple blocks of it, like the tanks, forges, and autonomous mining blocks. I guess just Buildcraft without the energy needs.
I think that the mechanical blocks should be in the game, but i think that they all should require some form of energy input with a full wiring system akin to that used in IndustrialCraft, because without some form of upkeep requirement, i fear that a mechanical system would quickly become very boring and one-dimensional.
Think pulleys, elevators, and conveyors. In a world like Starbounds, Large, you would want these types of things to be large scale too. I'm more of suggesting machines that the player can interact with. Things that may exist in real life such as the conveyor.
What about just a collection of physical parts/tools that can be combined into machines similar to what LittleBigPlanet does. Each part could be built from a recipe and used to create a physical contraption, possible created in a special room/deck somewhere on the ship. It would require skill and testing to complete so I would not get boring and the limitations are only on the player's mind and not the game. For instance, making a motor and a gear/wheel and physically attaching them would produce a very simple automobile (probably not to ride on) that can propel itself. Add and mining tool and you have a very basic automated mining machine.
Yeah, I could go for this! Generators and Motor blocks and conveyance systems to move things! Except, do it in a simpler way. I'm still boggled about the functions of some Tekkit items, But I've figured out most of them. I personally have an idea for some kind of a hydraulics piston pump system, since we have water pressure, why not be able to pressurize it with a pump and run it through pipes and into storage systems? It would be immensely useful.
I would love to see mechanical blocks/devices in the game, and yeah, Tekkit can get pretty complicated.
