Hello Chucklefish and others! Recently I got a bit mad. I Ran around a planet looking for stuff, as I started to get chased by monsters. I didn't have any melee weapons in my toolbar, as I was not there to grind pixels. Nevertheless, I ran, because my weapon quickly sucked all the energy from my energy-bar, as I started to get closer to a cliff. I panicked and jumped, but because of my low energy, i could not double jump. As a result, I died. So I was in my Koi and thought about the issue. It doesn't make sense that weapons make you exhausted. Instead, having a new mechanic to separately control the supply of your weapons, survival systems and whatnot, to take electrical energy instead, would make sense. One that does not recharge over time like the Energy-Bar... "Well, smart-ass, how is it going to get recharged and expanded if it's not like the Energy-Bar? Hurr Durr." Whelp, I am certainly glad you asked, dear viewer! And i did actually think of this. I call it the: Portable Backpack Solar Energy Rechargeable Pack 4 Weapons Or, the PBSERP4W, for short. I intend to make the graphics for both the Energy bar (Slightly light blue) and the PBSERP4W myself, as soon as i can get hold of some base armor and the normal Energy-Bar textures. Of course, you should be able to wear the PBSERP4W on a lone slot, so you can actually use items like the light stick, or similar, with it. Of course too, the PBSERP4W will have different tiers and upgrades, like say, the capacity and the recharge rate of the battery. And still, since it is a suggestion (probably in progress), things are maybe subject to change. It depends whether it is good as it is, or need stuff changed (obviously). Thanks for your time, and if you have questions, please read the FAQ/QnA at the bottom of the page before asking. Best of Regards, // Mallaceus Questions/Answers: Q: "How is the Battery-Bar supposed to be structured?" A: The Battery-Bar is going to have a small base recharge, which will then be able to be upgraded with the PBSERP4W. The bar itself will function almost the same as the Energy-Bar, that one part of it will be worth 10%, or 10 Battery-Points (BP). Well, at least it will during base capacity. The different tiers will alter the stats of the Battery-Bar, as mentioned before, upgrades will change the capacity and recharge rate, but maybe also some race-specialties. Q: "Will there be any variety in the choosing of packs? Will i be able to choose different forms of packs?" A: Of course. I intend to make every tier of the packs have 3 types. One aiming for Capacity, another one aiming for Recharge-Rate, and one combined version with Both. The higher tiers of the packs, however, will carry on the stats of the opposing lower rank tier. For example, the upgraded pack aiming for Capacity, will also have one step lower tier Recharge-Rate, and vice-versa. That will open up freedom in the way you want to use your pack, but still not make the upgraded version a must have. Q: "What is the 'Altered Energy Usage'?" A: Ah, That is not a big deal. Basically, Tech's and other non-weapon energy-draining abilities, will use Energy. Weapons however, will use Battery-Power. More Questions/Answers to come!
Or weapons can overheat like in first Mass Effect. It was a nice mechanic and basically works the same way, but instead of depleting some bar you're filling one. Having yet another energy bar for just guns seems sort of redundant. One may also make weapons cool down faster / slower depending on the outside temperature. With a sidenote that cooling down on ass freezing asteroid fields would be slower or nearly impossible since there's no air medium to transfer excessive heat into, no matter how much player character is actually freezing (come to think of it why are we freezing then? ).
That would be kind-of cool, i do agree on that, but it would also be a little bit overpowered. Guns that has infinite ammo on cold battlegrounds? Keep in mind what the developers say the game will turn out to be later, as in huge wars between 'Star Fleets', over for example, an ice planet. Constant bullets would slow the game and might even cause crashes, not even to mention the damage. A little bit too overpowered.. But i do like your idea. Post your idea as a new thread and hope for people to notice it, just like i did. I just want weapons not to use Energy, after all.
No one said it has to be a huge difference. Just a minor buff or smth. Would still change battle dynamics on certain planets. Later on you can modify planet's everything, so making it more friendly to range or melee oriented players would be a strategic choice one would say. Even if one that gone way too far. Freezing the whole planet so your gun can spit a few rounds more seems ridiculous. As to posting it as a separate idea, I have something more complicated on my mind, but I'd rather wait and see what devs actually want to do and then adapt to that. Who knows, maybe they plan to change the current mechanic anyway?
I know, but the way you said it made me think that it would be a really big difference. But yeah.. Who knows.. But since it is weird that ammo uses physical energy i do think they plan something.
