Everyone's been so busy with "I WANT MINIGUN AAAARMS" and such, that I though of a new thing to have on the end of your mech's arms. It's completely original and breathtaking and you'll love it... here goes...

    Hands.

Have the ability to create giant swords, pistols, laser cannons... then go into your mech and pick them up. Effectively a larger, more devastating player and I didn't say anything about not having laser eyes and shoulder missiles, did I?

I may come up with some more specific creations in the future, but I think it's complete enough for Tiy to know what I mean.

As always, post feedback and improvements! Constructive, or I'll eat you.

    GunmanRex Oxygen Tank

    sounds like a good idea.

  3. It would just make the mech a larger version of a character then, no?

    Ricola Void-Bound Voyager

I like this idea, but I must agree with naboona with the fact that having two hands would make arm swords/guns completely obsolete. Maybe have ONE arm able to have a hand? Or maybe the guns tools that you can use with a hand are less efficient than uni-purpose tools... Yeah, the decreased efficiency sounds good.

The idea is okay.. I love the fact that you can pick up weapons instead of them being attached to you though

  6. That's the problem, though.

Ricola's suggestion for decreased efficiency in return for moarsize and whatever benefits you can cram into the rest of the mech should work, actually.

i kinda like it, though what if its not a land mech? is it gonna be just a bigger version of you? i mean, thats fine, but......i need a explainion further.......not really seeing the point of picking it up when you could just have the sword as your arm.

  11. Versatility -- you can pick up a sword, drop it, and pick up an oversized machine gun.

I see how this is a good idea, the only question is how to properly implement it. After viewing this thread I can only come up with the solution similar to that of Lost Planet where the player could hold the item in their inventory and then place it onto the mech and the other part of the Lost Planet method is dropping the item on the ground, piloting the mech and then equipping the item laying of the floor (with certain hotkeys). If we wanted to get past the issue where items put into the environment can be picked up by other players we could, instead, place them like blocks (perhaps cosmetic blocks so movement is not impended) in the world and allow the block to be picked up by the mech.

This idea seems sketchy to implement so it may not work.

A larger, dramatic, steel version that could break through walls like the Kool-aid Man does, i hope.

Hrm...I like it, seems kinda... Gundam-y.

The prospect of piloting Gurren Lagann just gives me a happy feeling. |3

    Arm type:
    Hand, melee socket, ranged sockets.
Most adaptive is obv hand, but say "quad rocket arms" have better due to having no joint.
Agreed with King Vicious. Gundams are so boss, winged jetpacks anyone? Dang I'd replace my ship for a gundam that can land any day.

EDIT: Also suddenly remembered, how about animal mechs? *cough* Zoids *cough* RRRRGGAAAH!

Given the mecha we seen so far, I wouldn't like hands as the machines seem more inspired by western-styled legs-instead-of-wheels vehicles rather than asian robotic, big, humanoid knights (like Gundams) and thus mounting hands on them would look as bad to me as strapping humanoid arms onto a tank.

Now, my opinion would be different if there would be more japanese-styled mechas. But please, not the usual, cliche 'platemail with spikes everywhere' design or as silly idea of utilizing gaint, hi-tech robots for the sake of having primitive melee clashes, just at bigger scale - not that it's always horrible, but when nearly every show or mecha game (of the japanese origin) is of 'huge, metal knights jousting in the sky and waving their swords' variety, it does gets boring.

...are you implying that putting a pair of arms on an Abrams and watching it tear stuff up WOULDN'T be awesome as fuck?

Well, personally, I'd rather have Abrams shooting things, as it was intended and what function Abram's structure was meant to allow - but that's me.
